Many have commented on how Lorelai just wants to do her own thing and the town doesn't get a say on her personal life, but to me that's being very hypocritical...I was watching the episode "Die, Jerk" where Nicole comes back and at the end of the episdoe Lorelai is on the phone with Rory telling her something to the effect of that Luke has to understand that Nicole is back in her (Lorelai's) life too, not just his, it's a small town and the things he does affects everyone...and how mad she got about Luke a) getting married to Nicole in the frist place and b) not telling her about him moving out of the diner...I just don't see how she could (well, should I guess would be a better word) get upset with the town for not accepting Christopher when she fells the exact same way when someone else (granted it was Luke) gets involved/marries an outsider. Hope that made sense.
I don't think the town was in the wrong with how they treated Christopher, fine Babette didn't pinch his butt...she has the right to not like him if she wants...she and the rest of the town know his history with Lorelai and even if they wanted her to end up with Luke, they don't have to like her choice in a husband. They didn't have to give him a welcome wagon of any kind, but they did, even if it wasn't what Lorelai was expecting or wanted in a welcome wagon. I thought they acted fine.
Exactly. No matter if you agree with it or not, THIS is how Stars Hollow acts. This is how the town, as a character, has been written since the first season. Are they annoying sometimes? Of course. Do they poke into your business? All the time. This is small town, fictional USA. We are talking about stereotypes, and Stars Hollows IS the personification of a nosy community where everyone knows everyone else's business. This is how it's been. Throughout the entire show! Why, then, is everyone turning against the town for this one episode? Nobody seemed to be up in arms about it in the past. I mean, the town had a freakin' meeting to discuss Luke and Lorelei's relationship! They had ribbons! Stars Hollow has a history of this behavior, so I don't understand how it came as a surprise to anyone how the town would react.
Plus, no Lorelei didn't make any promises to the town concerning her intended. Of course whoever she marries is up to her. But the town isn't obliged to welcome Chris with open arms for Lorelei's sake. If they don't want to like him, then who's it to Lorelei to be offended? If they are such "separate" entitites, she has no right to be angry with them for having their own opinions.
But of course, I believe that the town is an integral part of Lorelei's life. And she knows it. Just like the above entry pointed out from "Die Jerk." Nice job mhmm! I had forgotten about that!

last night's epsiode was great. the whole epsiode was great. Good for Luke to fight back for April. Somebody was jealous when he saw Loreli with chris walking across the street. but Luke did have his moment when he heard his newly born niece.

I don't get the reasoning that because it's how the town acts that means that there's something surprising about people objecting to how they act. It's how they act. And? So? Therefore? That's how they act
and
some of us (a minority opinion, but no less valid than the majority) objected. Those two things aren't mutally exclusive. Besides, how far do you take that reasoning? If someone acts in a way that you disagree with you would always just say, "oh, well, that's just the way they act," or would you say you didn't like it?
Almost everyone on this show has been criticized at one time or another for just "acting the way they act" Should the town as a collective be exempt from that?
Oh, and Lorelai hasn't demanded anything. I think people are confusing Lorelai with posters (including yours truly Paris clone). Lorelai tried to make Christopher more inviting so the town would want to spend time with him. She complained privately to her best friend and asked her to help out. She walked on a public street through a town that is supposed to be in the United States, where I think it's still legal to walk in daylight, and I don't think Miss Manners would say it was a breach of ettiquette. She told Christopher of the huge discrepancy between how they treated the other married couple and how they treated him. She did not storm into the town meeting and say "Accept Christopher!" I highly doubt she called Miss Patty to tell her what she thought of the welcome wagon. She didn't whisper to Babbette "pinch his butt! Go on, do it!" Who in the town was she making demands to?
Of people say she shouldn't have expected them to act differently or shouldn't have complained about how they act, well I disagree, but at least she actually did do those things.

For me, I wasn't saying she didn't have a right to be upset, I just think she is being a hyprocrite for feeling like the town should accept Christopher when she didn't fully accept Luke's choice in Nicole. She certainly had/has every right to voice her feelings on the town and be upset, but its still hypocritical since she herself is guilty of the same thing (and before anyone says it yes, everyone at least once in their life is a hypocrite) but I just don't see that because the town didn't accept Chris with open arms and homeade goodies for the welcome wagon, that they were wrong, I just don't. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of Chris and want Lorelai to be with Luke, his character is alright, there is just something about him that bugs me, but I can't put my finger on it.
I don't think anyone said that Lorelai demanded anything. Yes, she did talk to Sookie one on one about her feelings on the subject of Christopher and ask for her help, but again, she is guilty of not accepting outsiders, so I don't see how she should hold the community up to certain standards if she doesn't live up to them herself. What confuses me is the third paragraph...I guess I just don't get what your point is. 'shrugs'

I feel bad for Lorelai, but you can't go around shouting "This decision is none of your business! I decide my happiness on my own and I decide where my life is going, and WHY AREN'T YOU GUYS THRILLED FOR ME!"
But, true, this is the only comment here that read to me like Lorelai made demands. So ignore the damand thing. I stand by everything else unless I change my mind.

Whoa..honkifuluvGG...
Are they sitting on smarties in your signature? I was going to post something but I'm hungry and now I see smarties and I forget what I was going to post.
I like "allthatness" and yes, tv leads have more allthatness than tv non-leads and real-life women. Dratness.
edit: It's good to note I don't know what "spree" is if it has a meaning other than "fan that doesn't read spoilers". If it's a candy, then I get the signature, but I still wish those were smarties.

that sig does look rather edible. Maybe thats just because i like the sentiment. I like it, and i would like to not read the spoilers but i have to coz i gotta see if there is hope! i would love to be able to take the surprises but i can't.
I loved Luke in this episode. They're doing a really good job of building him up again after luke second half of 6th wasn't too crash hot in the treated lorelai stakes, but now i'm back to loving him whole heartedly again, even if it did only go to a 99%heartedness before. I liked this episode, many funny moments, the Paris dancing HILARIOUS!
The town being slightly cold to christipher - GOOD! I mean sure its Lorelai's decision, no one is disputing that but just because the town didn't line the streets with mirth doesn't mean they're horrible. They were warming to him and i'm sure they will continue to, it just takes time.
...mmm....smarties

Chris's IDIOTIC move at the Knit-a-Thon. That town is never going to accept him after that. Sorry buddy.
Does no one else think that the towns folk were ok with Christopher paying for the rest of the bridge? No one seemed upset. As a matter of fact, everyone seemed relieved to be able to do something else other than knit. I doubt the town is not going to accept him for a kind gesture. If anything, it annoyed Lorelai more than anyone else.

She was annoyed, Lorelai loves those town things but they seemed like they didn't know what to do after. I don't know he should have just bought everyone coffee or hot cocoa or something.

I didn't say Lorelai was making demands, I said she expected more from her homegirls. She surprised her friends by eloping with her second choice and disappointed them by doing it behind their backs. If it's really none of their business who Lorelai marries, then it's none of Lorelai's business how they feel about it.
What made me see Emily in her was the way she tried to manipulate them into liking Christopher because her feelings were as hurt by their disappointment as theirs were by being left out of the "most important day of her life."

I feel like Lorelai is putting too much thought into the whole SH accepting Chris thing.. yes everyone in the town wanted her to end up with Luke, but they also knew about all the drama going on with him and April so they should atleast be understand. Chris was in SH in the 1st season so the town does know him pretty well i'd say. I just think if they go with the flow of things it'd be better. Instead of Lorelai bugging out and having to set up many "man dates", which was too funny with the clothes btw! haha, they should just walk thro town and be on their way. Of course its awkward with Luke and it's like the whole ribbon thing again where the town picks sides, but now it's between luke and chris. I just think that if they really wanted things to be normal they would just go with it. Also, anyone know if Chris is working? Or even where? Can't be in Stars Hollow.. they don't show anything outside the relationships anymoreee.

First quote: One move and the town will
never
accept you? I grew up in New Orleans, and I thought that was a bad place with all the murder and leering old men, but Stars Hollow is hard core, man! Fran may have looked like a sweet old lady when she was alive, but I bet if anyone crossed her, she could have bust a cap up in them! And Taylor's so wound up, you just know he'll cut you if you look cross eyed at him.
Second quote: Well, I certainly know the town were okay enough to take his money. Although, now I'm thinking when Christopher offered it, Taylor pulled out a shiv and said, "And don't think about taking it back, pretty boy!"

But really, April, NM is a great place... there's more to it than "the desert."
Amen, sister. I was a little off-put that April described New Mexico as pretty much a wasteland. As a former NM resident I found the state to be a great place to live. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are very bohemian and would suit Anna's personality just great. It wasn't surprising that Anna said she was brought up there. Of course coming from a little girl's perspective, I can understand why she would be upset.
