Rory is an amazing woman. And Marty isn't an ex, he's an also-ran. The fact that he was so besotted that he could barely look her in the eye was a given from the outset, as well as the fact that she was not interested in being more than friends (an offer he was too profoundly affected to take.)
Dean, Jess, Marty, and Logan aren't exactly a random sampling of the population, and having four men in the world who will never stop missing her doesn't exactly make her the most potent sex symbol of our time.

Everyone has their breaking point. Maybe after years of things like Kirk calling her the pretty spinster and Taylor putting her personal life on a town meeting agenda, and the freaking ribbons, maybe she just had an epiphany.
"Hey, it's a nice town, it's my home, but some things they just don't get a vote on."
THIS is exactly (alright not exactly, but pretty close) to what I was thinking about last night when I was laying in bed trying so very hard to fall asleep! I was wondering when Lorelai would finally just say 'screw this, I'm doing what I want with my life and I don't care if people don't like it!' and in a way, she's starting to say that with Chris being in Stars Hallow! I'm happy that she's taking her life back so to speak, perhaps it's not that serious...but I hope that she will eventually be okay with doing things that the town doesn't 'approve' of more often. As you stated, Rory felt the same a few times, and was also upset with the town, when they spoke up about Dean, when they spoke up about Jess...the only thing that helped Rory a little with the whole small town thing, is that she moved away to start college.
I also wanted to just add (I hope it's not too off topic) that I read someone started up a new knitting project in honor of last night's episode...I was happy because I went out and bought a knitting kit and some pretty yarn to start knitting agian! I don't remember how, but I hope it comes back to me! The episode motivated me to pick it back up...if Gilmore Girls likes it - and the WHOLE town seemed to, they got so upset when Chris topped off the goal, then I can learn the art again and like it!
I'm so excited!
Off to go knit...

Having four men after one woman on a tv show does send a sign that Rory is not just special but super duper hot smoking sexy but angelic special and a walking aphrodisiac. And, it's not just the number. It's the idea that no guy she's ever spent any significant time with has ever just thought of Rory as a friend. I mean, every single guy Rory runs into just happens to be attracted to tall, brown haired, blue eyed, studious types? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but aren't there any (significant guys -not just walk on roles) who might prefer blondes or ditzes or athletic types? The only guys who have actually had substantial roles and haven't fallen for Rory are either the goofy friends of the more together guy (Colin, Finn, the guy Lane wanted Dean to set her up with), or already involved with someone else. And, not only does every guy who gets any good amount of screen time actually fall for Rory, but every single one of them stays in love with her? Even with her flirting with other guys, them get married to other women, them moving out of the state at making something of their lives and getting girlfriends (mixing in the events of Rory's conquests). All I know is, I want whatever stuff Rory bathes in. At least Lorelai did have a flat out rejection, even if it was from Rune, and at least one of the guys she was shown dating hasn't made a reappearance to say Lorelai will always be the love of his life -Alex.
4 guys wouldn't seem like that much if they also showed her interacting on a regular basis with guys who didn't fall under her spell and didn't have to be safely out of the running to make sure they didn't. Why couldn't Marty just want to be friends, or get over his freshman crush? Even if Rory is all that, which I still don't buy, she can't be the only all that girl out there or her all thatness excedes the allthatness of anyone else. I wonder if Marty and Lucy play games where Lucy stumbles across him naked so he can relive the magical night where he and Rory first met?
Wait. I'm supposed to be mellow, aren't I? Ommmm Ommmm. I'm in a field of daffodils. I'm popping whatever pills leave you that easy going feeling. I'm listening to soft rock. I'm so mellow, I'm yellow.
Okay, I'm mellow, but I do want to add that the non mellow feeling I'm not having is very common when one of the leads has a large number of men after her. Maybe not large by the standards of real life, but by the show -like if they have more men interested in them than other people on the show, or if the amount of men they show being interested exceeds (excedes?) the amount of men not interested, it annoys some people.

Okay, I've read pretty much everyone's post about last night's episode. I thought it was a pretty good one...
The 2002 themed party was interesting, like many of you I don't get why Marty was brought back.
The knit-a-thon was funny, very Stars Hollow, Chris' donation or whatever you want to call it, was very well intentioned, but he just doesn't get the town...maybe Lorelai should have explained to him what the knit-a-thon was all about (not just raising money for the bring, but bonding as a town for however many hours - like the dance-a-thon (sorry can't remeber the name...the one where Kirk wins and Dean breaks up with Rory)) anyway, Lorelai could have explained it to him like she explained Babette and Miss Patty being "cordial" instead of just being nice, but whatever.
Many have commented on how Lorelai just wants to do her own thing and the town doesn't get a say on her personal life, but to me that's being very hypocritical...I was watching the episode "Die, Jerk" where Nicole comes back and at the end of the episdoe Lorelai is on the phone with Rory telling her something to the effect of that Luke has to understand that Nicole is back in her (Lorelai's) life too, not just his, it's a small town and the things he does affects everyone...and how mad she got about Luke a) getting married to Nicole in the frist place and b) not telling her about him moving out of the diner...I just don't see how she could (well, should I guess would be a better word) get upset with the town for not accepting Christopher when she fells the exact same way when someone else (granted it was Luke) gets involved/marries an outsider. Hope that made sense.
I don't think the town was in the wrong with how they treated Christopher, fine Babette didn't pinch his butt...she has the right to not like him if she wants...she and the rest of the town know his history with Lorelai and even if they wanted her to end up with Luke, they don't have to like her choice in a husband. They didn't have to give him a welcome wagon of any kind, but they did, even if it wasn't what Lorelai was expecting or wanted in a welcome wagon. I thought they acted fine.

Rory had a casual dating phase. What was his name, Victor? Vincent? And there was also laundry room guy. And her friends' boyfriends have always been safe until now. Rory gets shot down when the guy isn't interested, just like anyone else.
And I have to believe she's met more than the handful of men she's dated or gotten serious about. The staff at the Yale Daily News never so much as suggested she be the page-5 girl. There were plenty of guys besides Tristan DuGray at Chilton, but they were all too afraid of Paris (or *gasp* uninterested) to approach her.
Being attractive to a lot of men isn't what makes Rory special, but as far as I can tell, she really does throw herself into a relationship, romantic or otherwise. Real people can't always give their full attention to their SO's and still get into and graduate Yale. It's an unrealistic standard of balancing massive commitments. Amazing if fictional.

Young ones and old, don't listen to the freaky woman who jokes about taking narcotics to take away any ire at the fictional conquests of fictional characters. If you're going to abuse drugs, do it for a real reason. -Um, disregard that last sentence. Drugs are bad. Try knitting.

Liz and TJ had their baby (what's her name? Dora?),
Liz and TJ named the baby Dula, i think my spelling may be off. A dula is sort of a midwife that helps deliver babies. Since Liz had the baby at home with the help of a dula i'm sure that is why our beloved yet simple TJ named the baby that.

I think that's a typical TJ and Liz name, I wasn't a bit surpised by it!
I am glad that they showed a little of that...again, getting more characters in the mix of things this show! TJ and Liz always were one of a kind, that's what is good about them...annoying at times but one of a kind!

Makes perfect sense to me! That's one of the main reasons I love coming here...people can state their own opinions and they aren't fact, they can share their thoughts and disagree but discuss! I love how there aren't mean comments being thrown around and disrespect being displayed because somenoe doesn't agree with others! It's a great feeling to know you can voice your own thoughts and not get yelled at or end up feeling bad about it. For me, I can see many points or sides to the same issue or situation. This is a good point and makes perfect sense!
Does anyone else ever think they feel one way on something and then wake up the next day and totally feel different about it? That happens to me with the Gilmore Girls a LOT actually...especially after joining the forum! It's great to keep thinking and on your toes, isn't it?!
OK don't rambling for now...sorry!

I get where anne is coming from, its hard to let someone else in when you have been the only parent for so long, but I dont think she is right. Poor little april. they have never shown her so helpless before. I think luke is doing the right thing. Anne is not a single parent now and she needs to keep that in mind. Man, I cant even change my sons breakfast cereal without talking with his dad first. Ya gotta work as a team. GO LUKE!!!!!!

It's kind of a special relationship that April and Luke have...I mean they are two people who seems as though they may be misunderstood about things, don't have a lot of people they can really, truly talk to, I mean about most anything, are into 'different' types of things that others may not understand, weren't sure about the whole father/ daughter thing at first but now I think they really enjoy it! I think they are the perfect two to have such a relationship and I hope that they will be given the opportunity to strengthen that relationship!

I believe I agree with everyone on this post by saying that this episode was probably the best one so far this season. Yay! Hope still thrives! I was cracking up at the Emily/Richard scene. It was so classic to have Emily keep the message that Lorelai left. And it was so classic that a message is how Lorelai told her parents that their dream had come true and Lorelai and Christopher were finally married! Just simply fabulous. I am NOT a Chris fan by any means. . . I have been a L/L shipper from the beginning, so I didn't mind the reaction of the town. And really, how would you act around a complete stranger? I don't know! But it is interesting to contrast how the town acts around Chris now as opposed to the episode in the first season when everybody was following him and Rory around and Miss Patty totally hit on him (i love that bit). I just don't want Lorelai and Chris to last, that's all. Money is definitely not the root of all evil, but I was disappointed that the knit-a-thon was cut short, despite Lorelai's antics to keep it going. I don't know, I found it interesting that it seemed as though Chris was making headway as a result of his man-date with Jackson (i don't think the follow-up stuff about darts, game-watching, etc. was a joke or forced) and then, BOOM, there goes that chance. Yes, Chris was just trying to be nice and that's how he knew he could fix the problem. Unfortunately, it backfired, and I don't think anything we say for or against the reaction of the town to Christopher is going to change however DR decides to write the story.
I loved Luke finally standing up for something without coming off as a sourpuss. It was GREAT! I hated the idea of him having a daughter he didn't know about, and I still think it was kind of dumb, but I have loved his relationship with April. I don't know. . . I kind of like the girl. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. I could not believe Anna's rant that Luke could not do or say anything to April about any possible decisions of how they would work it out. Of course she's been used to being on her own raising April for most of April's life, but Luke wants to be there and has been there, and Anna had some gall to ball him out for trying to make his daughter happier about what was happening.
I have never liked Logan, but I have resigned myself to the fact that I think the Rory/Logan relationship is not going to end. As much as I may not like it, that's just the way life goes. I was really happy when Marty was brought back, but was totally unhappy with his coldness to her. Very glad that she said something to him about it. When he sat next to her on the couch and they started chatting, I was very happy that they could be friends again, but his telling her that she was still as beautiful as ever made me sad. That's the kind of comment that could have been played completely innocently, just as old friends who have seen each other again and are just saying, "Hey, you look good." I think that's how Marty wanted it to sound initially, but unfortunately, we saw more and Rory was not okay with it. People have commented that, "Woah, Marty's hitting on a girl behind his girlfriend's back!" but I didn't see it as Marty trying to hit on Rory. I definitely think he still carries a torch for her (of course he does, doesn't every guy who has ever had a thing for rory? you're not allowed to get over her, fellas!), but I don't think he deliberately meant to hit on her.
And Paris and Doyle? Way to bust a move! Made me happy!

That's what I like about coming here as well.
And I forgot to mention that I loved how Luke stood up to Anna about his rights as a parent. I was waiting for it all last season when we were first introduced to April and Anna and I was so glad to have him finally voice is anger/frustration with her over the whole situation.
This was definitely one of the better episodes this season.
