Just another word on the Aerie Girls...
"
The Gilmore Girls
Hypothesis"?? This is also nitpicky just like my last post, but they obviously don't know what a HYPOTHESIS is. What that smarty mentioned was not a scientific way to reach a conclusion. Stupid. If any of you are on facebook, there's an anti-Aerie group. Join it. Love it.
I called my boyfriend after I watched the episode (I had to tape it because of a government study group...gross) and he asked "So how was the show?" I told him how happy I was with it and he said, "Good. Now I don't have to hear for an entire week how stupid that Dave guy is." He also made a reference to GG in a conversation we had--I am educating him!
Can I just say that Miss Patty looks like she's lost weight in her face? So SKINNY.

Well, I don't see the 'Paris' comparison. It's more like the opposite, you're saying "Hey, all you Parises can't you look at the upside and ignore the problem here?"
The town hasn't been really bad to Christopher. They don't know him that well, and they're not treating him like he's an old fixture of the community that's all. Lorelai took the welcome wagon personally because she was hoping for the best and expecting the worst, but Christopher never would have known.
I feel bad for Lorelai, but you can't go around shouting "This decision is none of your business! I decide
my
happiness on my own and I decide where
my
life is going, and WHY AREN'T YOU GUYS THRILLED FOR ME!"
Well, that sounds a little harsh, but (as Lorelai realized at the end of the episode) it isn't wrong that they haven't given him the key to the city for marrying their pet spinster. Getting to know them all and finding his place in their close-knit community will take time, and he just isn't there yet.
Personally, I think the "They wanted it to be Luke" thing was directed at us, not Lorelai, and it won't play a big role in their warming up to Christopher.

Predictions (and fantasy):
I can see how this season should go:
Sheri should tell Chris that she wants to keep Gigi with her in Paris. Chris says OK, which pisses off Lorelei as she remembers how Chris left her and Rory.
I was fantasizing the same exact thing!
Except in my version Chris decides to move to Paris so he doesn't miss out on Gigi growing up like he did Rory. How bout that?

Someone did tell me I was being like Paris. Sorry, whoever you are that I don't remember your name - and I'm too unParis lazy to look up, but thanks so much, since I get to add all sorts of tags to my posts now. There are literally
years
of Paris moments I can co-opt, even when I run out of dance terms and get tired of referring to the bunker. Fun!

Where did she do this? She had a private conversation with her best friend that her decision was none of their business (it isn't). She was acting like Christopher was the skinhead descendent of John Wilkes Booth on his father's side and Pol Pot on his mother's, not to mention the nasty green slime dripping from his face, so he had to be hidden away -until he rightfully said he shouldn't have to hide. I don't think she ever hinted that anyone had to be thrilled for her let alone grabbed anyone by the throat with eyes bulging, screaming, "Are you thrilled for me?! You'd better be thrilled for me!" *demonic voice* "BE HAPPY FOR ME!!!"
*all elaborations and descriptive terms are mine. I'm not suggesting anyone else has used them*

What Lorelai says about the townspeople not expecting her with Chris but wanting her to be with Luke, and that it's not their life, it's hers...
it seems that was being spoken to the fanbase of the show didn't it? Kind of confusing considering DR says he is a fan of the L/L combination, maybe he just wants the ending to be harder to predict.
I thought the very exact same thing. That line seemed to be directed at the viewing audience even if it wasn't.

I think that there are some of us who are forgeting that Lorelai has always cared what the town thought.
Remember when she went downstairs to the Diner in only Luke's shirt. She thought that everyone in town would be talking about them, but then was "concerned" that they were not. This people have played a "family" role in her life since she moved there. She doesn't need their approval but I think sometimes Lorelai seeks it out.
My personal feelings aside, I think that bringing a new "husband" to town so soon after a year long engagement with someone is what is giving the SH townsfolk cause to be wary. Hopefully, if this marriage does bite the dust, Miss Patty and Babette will be frank with Lorelai and tell her that they never thought Christopher was the right one for her.
If Chris and Lorelai's marriage ends, I wonder how Luke will find out?

I loved almost everything about this episode. Highlights --Emily replaying Lorelei's Chris and I got married voice mail, The Knit-a-thon, the cool 'cordial' reaction to Chris in Star's Hollow, Luke standing up to Anna, Paris and Doyle, Taylor being cut off in the middle of his speech, Kirk going around selling knitting needles, Jackson and Chris in the bar.
Its really typical for small towns to take a long while to get used to a new resident, even if he didn't marry a town favorite. And I think Lorelei ranted about it a bit too soon, they've only been married for what, a week, and they eloped on top of it --no warning to the townfolk. I loved Babbette trying to find the bright side of the elopement, but really only pointing out that the big wedding with the dress and all was what Lorelei had planned with Luke. On TJ and Liz, loved the scene of him freaking out in the diner over the home birth, but dislike the choice of name. I mean, unusual is okay, but giving her a name that means 'midwife'
? Too weird. On Marty, I think their interaction was apt, especially since they had had a bit too much to drink, that he would say how beautiful Rory is --as we've all heard before, once you've gone Gilmore, there's no going back! And there may be trouble ahead for Logan and Rory--he's so consumed with work now, a total 180 from last year. I loved Luke holding Liz's baby, and as has been mentioned thought of his dreams of having kids with Lorelei, think the scene had a double meaning, both on what he missed with April, and the lost future with Lorelei. Will write more later, but am really looking forward to next week --DR hit the mark this time

Everyone has their breaking point. Maybe after years of things like Kirk calling her the pretty spinster and Taylor putting her personal life on a town meeting agenda, and the freaking ribbons, maybe she just had an epiphany. "Hey, it's a nice town, it's my home, but some things they just don't get a vote on." Rory experienced the feeling a few times, like when the town decided that they could act like she betrayed them for not being Taylor's ice cream queen or whatever the heck it was, when she made no promises to them to do so. So, maybe Lorelai's been a little slow on the uptake until now.
I could buy the "they didn't have time to prepare" explanation if they had simply done nothing. If Miss Patty had simply run into Lorelai by accident when she was alone and had said something like "Hey, honey, just wanted to tell you you got married so fast, we didn't have time to make up the welcome wagon so it'll have to wait." Or, if they simply didn't do anything at all. But, unless Miss Patty hoards cleaning supplies, it seems they actually had to plan to give those things, since she would have had to ask people to give their Bounty towels and Windex to go into the wagon. I wonder how that worked? A town meeting? "Should we give Lorelai and that man a welcome wagon?" "I guess we have to." "But, I'm not baking up any cookies for that man." "I have a sweater I knitted, but I think I'll donate it to the poor before I let anyone think I approve of this marriage." "So, if we're going to do this, what'll we put in the wagon that won't put us out?" "Cleaning supplies! Sure, who doesn't have an extra sponge or a bottle of 409 they haven't used."

I think that if Chris and Lorelai break up, it will be because Luke and Lorelai will get back together, so I think he'd be one of the first to know. Luke being partially responsible would be the icing on the Chris and Lorelai break up cake, right?
When I posted earlier, I didn't mention Olivia's 21st Birthday. Things like this birthday party, and how Doyle & Paris were acting show everyone that Gilmore Girls hasn't really changed much. Ridiculous humor like this makes the show. What other show would have a "2002" themed party?

"Moving away from Stars Hollow because things will never be the same?"
Why would we want things to be the same? Things do change. Big deal. It doesn't mean it can't be great. Lorelai is closing in on 40 years old. I imagine she wants a change. So if her and Chris live in Stars Hollow and it changes, I say that's great. Maybe with Chris there she won't get bullied so often by the opinions of the town. I hope he doesn't integrate into the town too much, that would be too cheesy. He needs to be something else for Lorelai, not just a townie. I always think back to what Dean told Luke when he said "they want more than this." Whether he is completely true or not, I don't know. But Lorelai is an ambitious person and everyday at the coffee shop is great, but its nice to have something else to turn to. At least, for now. I'm at the point where I just want to see her mature and be happy - with someone. I think soul-searching would be a good step for Lorelai and I'm not too concerned with her love life right now so much as seeing her take some new steps in life.
Same with Rory. Thank goodness she has branched out this season a little. I like that she has the Tweedles. I like that she doesn't know what to do right now, she is continually written to be more human, with more dimensions.
And Dani257, keep posting your opinions. Don't censor yourself, it's great that you bring fresh insight to the post as opposed to the same old "I love Luke she should be with him." "Chris is so stupid" thought process.
Amen to all you said, I think L/C adds more dimensions for the show to grow in, and if everything got worked out perfectly, ie L/L, then much of the suspense and drama of the show would go poof!!!

ANYBODY.
i tried to write a very detailed reply to Dani257 - intercuttting the Quotes, but it all went purple. Will anyone explain how you pick multiple quotes and intercut your own comments, offline to me on a PM - THANKS in advance, if you have the time. If it is too involved, nevermind.
I feel like Christopher - i am a newcomer to a strange place.
BECAUSE I USED THE WORD "STUPID"-
OK - OK, FOR THE RECORD - i DO NOT think Chris is
STUPID-
on the CONTRARY - i think the writers are making him do STUPID STUFF - which is contrary to how i want him to act, and how i think of him in general. I am frustrated. I know we cannot all read this deluge of writing, BUT i was one who said, "When i watched the series front to back, i began to see the logic of Chris and Lorelai and even began to want it" (paraphrased) that's right, i was pulling for Chris. I know i've used the term"stupid" SOOOO, please let me try to explain. Chris is NOT stupid, and therefore i see no reason why the writers would make him do a stupid thing - or a thing perceived stupid by the townspeople. I watched the eppy and said , "Oh, GREAT, why did you have to make Christopher do THAT?" Because of course i knew the private joke of the town and how Lorelai would CRINGE at this gesture. A person who really finds him stupid would just say, "Yeah, typical." I have this weird need to see BOTH men to be at their BEST - i am like Lorelai, i want to marry both of them, if that makes any sense at all.
As a viewer, i can see the attractive qualities in both characters, and both actors. As for strong language - yeah, it's confining, isn't it.

After reading your post, I have to agree, negating my statement in prior post. Lorelei has lived here a long time, already knew how the town would react, and didn't like it, naturally. Small towns are good in that everyone knows you, but bad in that everyone has an opinion on your business. Now that I think about it, I can see her thinking, hey, I'm happy, deal with it, and lets move on.

You are so right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe just Lorelai just coming to an "lightbulb moment" and ditching Chris. I don't want her running into Luke's arms. I want them to get closer and closer while working with the April custody matter. Then, let the sparks fly!
