Just like to note that I'd probably buy any of the designs, but I don't really like that white on red colour.

I liked copperbooms teashirt, except the characters need to look more like the GG's. It looks to much like anime. I would have never guessed it's lorelai and rory.

aryan2003's not the first person to bring this up, and so I thought I'd do well to clarify a little: the reason the two figures on the "Coffee-shirt" don't look unmistakably like Rory and Lorelai is that, as a matter of fact, they can't. Because we're not legally allowed to use the likenesses of Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel (or any actors on the show), I've had to resort to sort of implying them without being too obvious about it. I don't know too much about anime, but I wouldn't have guessed that this design came anything too close to it--I certainly didn't mean it to. (At one stage, I drew "Rory" with some hatchlines across her face as a kind of coffee-induced rosy-cheekedness that, now that I think about it, is something that gets used a lot in those cartoons, right? Well, in any case, I didn't think of it then, and it's moot now anyway--but while we were on the subject ...)

Long story short, there's unfortunately no recourse to make these figures look any more like the Girls than they do already. My thinking as I was designing it, though, was (1) Two young-looking women, similar in appearance, with mid-length dark hair, and (here's the real tip-off) drinking coffee, on a shirt that's celebrating the virtue of coffee, with "Gilmoregirls.org" written underneath--I figured most fans would decipher who they were pretty quickly; (2) Because of the T(ea)-shirt/Coffee-shirt pun, I thought it would equally be the kind of thing that even your average Emmy voter (i.e. someone who never, ever, ever watches Gilmore Girls) would appreciate: but while they're all under the impression that those girls are just two anonymous coffee-lovers, we'd all secretly know better ... Wink This way, see, everybody's happy, and better yet, we're all spared a lot of having to explain it. After these last two paragraphs, not having to explain stuff is definitely something I'd count as a plus. Cheesy

Anyway, I hope that at least clarifies why the figures have to look the way they do ... or not look the way they don't ... By the way, a similar compromise would obviously have to get made if the figure is kept in the "Lorelai Paradox" design that Heidi posted in mock-up a page or so back--but I'd definitely try harder to err on the side of more realism if it comes to a final design stage. (While I've got your attention: the only reason she's there in the first place is because I figured that the "Paradox" actually refers to the fact that Lor eats so much and still stays so svelt, which you don't actually pick up from simply having the food being added together. Yeah?)

All right, well, thanks for reading! I hope it was a help.

i like the equation idea best so far it's great, and i would totally buy it. can we still add suggestions? if it's too late, then i'll keep it in mind for the next shirt.

i had an idea last night for a t-shirt. it might not work, but if no one likes it i could just make it for myself. it would be like this- you'd see the cartoon backs of the gilmores and they're sitting at a coffee table or something, you can kinda tell it's them by similar figures, and lorelai's long, curly hair, and rory's pulled back in a ponytal with the bangs. they both have those little thought clouds that lead up to one big shared thought bubble filled with stuff like Luke, the engagment, April, Christopher, Logan, Jess, aracnaphobiaphobia, Yale, ect. just filled with stuff and worries they are thinking about. then on the back it shows the same figures with the same big thought bubble, exept this time they have two cups of steaming coffee in front of them, and maybe a laptop that says gilmoregirls.org across the screen or somthing. and all that is in the thought bubble is a happy face (Smiley). then maybe it says gilmoregirls.org on the bottom or something. what do you think? too much stuff?

It's sad that a lot don't like the red -- but I can understand.  I think the red works really well with the design since we're featuring an apple, popcorn, chinese food etc... With the absence of using colors on the shirt, I Think the red fills in for those objects quite nicely.

Drew thanks for all of your hardwork.  May I ask how you do it?  Is it all digital magic or is it handdrawn first?  I'm in awe at your work and you get my pretty stick whenever I see you around.

Emily - that's a cute idea, but I'm having trouble visualizing it.  Are you saying it would be two sided with the back view of the gals in the back and the front in the front, with the shared bubbles with a common interest?  Is this what you're thinking?  It might work, but there would be a lot of detail - but it would be simplified.

So I, for One, actually like the red. but i do respect that it doesn't flatter everyone. The desgin is great.
~*emily*~ I really do like your idea a lot. it sounds hard to make and i think their thoughts would have to be very simplified for it to look right, but that idea definately has potential.
Wish I would have knew about the first t-shirt or this site earlier~

I too respect that red doesn't flatter everyone!  I absolutely love the idea!  I think that if you made it in red, than you should make it in some other colors too!  I am one of those people that red isn't their best color, so if you were to make it in other colors more people would buy them!  Just a suggestion.

So have we narrowed it down to a couple designs now? I've been gone so long I don't know what is going on.

well we haven't decided on one idea we still have a few. but copperboom has made graphics to show what most of them would look like, and has done an amazing job. you can look at the later posts to see all of those.

It might work, but there would be a lot of detail - but it would be simplified.

i was thinking about the copyright stuff where you can't have the girls look exactly like the gilmores, so i thought we would make the figures's hair exactly like the gilmore girls. There would be an image on the back and on the front. both are very similar images, and both only show the backs of the girls, no faces. in the front, it would show them sitting at a table facing their backs to us, and thinking thoughts about what is going on in their lives. (to answer kimono's comment about the thoughts being simplified- the way i imagined it the thought bubbles would just have words representing the troubling thoughts. ex: "Luke" or "the engagment" instead of "will i ever get married to Luke?". so a few words representing thoughts they would be having scattered around in the big thought bubble, but no actual sentences, like complete thoughts. does that make sense?)
then on the back, it would have the same image, but with three changes- 1. there is a laptop on the table that says gilmoregirls.org on the screen 2. the girls now each have a cup of coffee in front of them. 3. all there is in the thought bubble now in a smiley face like this- Smiley
the shirt would be kind of filled up, and there would be "gilmoregirls.org" filling up the laptop screen, so maybe we could but "gilmoregirls.org" in kind of small letters on the sleeve. you know, like how some clothing lines have a little trade mark sign they put on the edge of one of the t-shirt sleeves?

i really hoped that helped people visualize it. if anyone has any questions or comments about the idea, just post them and i'll reply. thanks!!!

I'm a newbie here, just read the whole thread and I like the previous ideas but I didn't get the "Tea-Shirt" at first, the graphic is amazing though.

I have a couple of ideas, kinda simple but here I go.

-One is something like "can't function without coffee"
-The other one is a friend's idea... kinda a grocery list with COFFEE listed more than once, like: "Coffee, pop-tarts, shampoo, chips, coffee, detergent..." or "Coffee, coffee, COFFEE! - poptarts - shampoo...etc"

...and maybe at the back "addicted to coffee... addicted to gilmore girls"

I'd love a GG-related t-shirt no matter what, if I can convince my mom I'll def. buy one.
