i cried a river watching this one! rory's speech was just amazing. then the epi before this one, when lorelai was going through rory's yearbook and she asked rory if she was named the valedictorian.. omg the look on lorelai's face!!
anyways i think chris really pushed it in this episode. i know lorelai said he was away on business or something but seriously, wth.. your daughter is graduating from high school.. it only happens once... graduating from chilton.. a valedictorian!! your same daughter that got accepted to 3 ivy freakin league schools!! i don't care if you have a meeting with the dalai lama! you just got to be there!!!

The same thought comes into my head about this episode.  Paris should have been valedictorian.  There is no way that Rory had a higher grade point average.  Paris never got less than an A- in her life.  Rory got a D on her first paper  at Chilton.  Even if she got straight A's forever after, that still wouldn't beat Paris.

At some schools (like mine) people apply for being valadictorian (sp?) I kno that rory didnt apply b/c in the eppisode b4 this one she said that she didnt want to write another speech but maybe people voted for her anyway or something even if she didnt apply

Perhaps Paris didn't make Valedictorian because she blew off school for like three days in a row with no explanation when she found out she didn't get into Harvard.  She did make up the work, but maybe attendance was part of the valedictory requirement as well.

I loved Luke dreaming about Lorelai not asking him to get engaged.  I can't wait to get through season 4 so I can get to the all important Luke and Lorelai pairing!

David Sutcliffe (the actor that plays Christopher) had his own sit-com (I think it was a sit-com) on the air at the time and its filming conflicted with GG so he couldn’t be on the show for Rory’s graduation.  That’s the only reason Christopher was not there.

The ceremony really moved me ! The presence of Luke shows has which point he holds to Lorelai and Rory.
I think the relation enter Lorelai et Rory give desire has all.
It's beautiful when rory said: "I don't know if she ever realized that the person I most wanted to be was her."

I think Rory made valedictorian over Paris for loads of reasons. Maybe I'm mistaken but I think whoever picked the valedictorian would have looked at more than test scores. And even thought Paris has done all the charity stuff etc, I'm sure whoever picked looked at the individual. At how they treat people. I think maybe that Rory was picked because of, not only her good grades (and i think the bad one at the start would have been credited to her changing schools), her personality and also, because Paris made president. She was already somthing and maybe they wanted to give someone equally deserving a chance. Also, like someone already said, I dont think Paris' "I had sex, but I didnt get into Harvard." meltdown live on C-Span helped her really.

Maybe I'm talking rubbish?

have any of you seen the extra scene in this? its SOO good. its on the DVD for season 3. But anyway, its got chelsea brummet in and its when Rory and Lorelai are walking about the inn after its closed and all empty. And they are walking about and remembering and young rory and young lorelai are skipping about and talking too (not at the same time as the regular Lorelai and Rory) but its REALLY good. =]

  I think in this episode Lukes hair looks the best in all seven seasons. He looks clean and handsome even though he can pull off the rugged look.

I love this episode yet I cry every time I see it!! I cry during Rory's speech (who doesn't?!) and i cry during Rory and Jess phonecall! I'm such a sucker for Literati!! lol
This was a very good season finale, but for me because I do love old school GG I find the whole idea of Rory moving on from high school very sad because it means change (I hate change i know that's bad but I do!) and it means that Rory will change and I don't like that idea I just loved the earlier seasons!!

Anyone notice the uncredited  cameo by Kristen bell? She is the girl who is doing the recording at the school. Before they pan to Rory and Paris.

this is definitely sad. But here's one thing that always confused me--sure, rory is valedictorian but how the heck did brad get 2nd over paris?

I loved the ending when lorelai said chilton wasn't so scary anymore--she's right.
