Things I thought of when I was watching the show... thanx to a great GG fan whose name I don't remember  Embarrassed

The way Rory told Logan that she loved the Rocket initially...it reminded me of the time when Lorelai had said she loved the bedroom furniture which once belonged to Luke's Grandmother! I hoped the ending of that little part would not be like what Lorelai had to go through... thanx to Rory's analytical brain that she googled it  Cool

The scene where Kirk drives into Luke's Diner was just so shocking Shocked. I knew this would happen, but... the whole scene, although small, was just so well shot! (Rory explains is amazingly to Lorelai later.)
The expressions were priceless too Grin Tongue

Lorelai's adamant behaviour towards not discussing Luke to Rory makes it seem that Lorelai wants to make herself a kind of ideal mother to the daughter who has come back from college after bidding her boyfriend a tearful goodbye. She tries to grow up in that scene. I don't know how many people notice this, but I think Lorelai is growing up to her actual age which must be 39 or 40 now!! Shocked

The camera angle to Luke's Diner was different. For the past 6 Seasons the camera positions have never changed. I'm having thoughts that our Luke's will not remain the same again  Cry

I loved Lorelai's orange colored pajamas.  Tongue

The last scene that has been much talked about was just out of this world! I know there are many people who disagree to the way Lorelai told Luke about sleeping with Chris, but I think she felt too guilty of all the stuff that Luke was saying and that particular thing kept banging on her head so much so that she dint have time to sort things out in her head. She just spoke her mind, while she felt guilty.

Maybe it's because I'm a guy and not really a romantic, but I always prefered when Luke was the "cranky guy in baseball cap" who had a very cool friendship with Lorelai, alias "crazy coffee freak".

It's was funnier I think.

Things I absolutely loved about The Long Morrow.  I understand in advance that not everyone will find the same things funny I did -- these are things I loved.  This is not a complete list.

*Lorelai:  "I can't [stay], Paul Anka"
Christopher:  "There's no way he's performing this early.  Check your tickets."
*Lorelai:  "Babette one, nature nada!"
*Michel:  "You think you are so great.  You think you are Miss La-di-da!"
*Paris:  "Wealthy, good-looking hedonistic heir to billion dollar multi-national media conglomerate moves to London and spends nights pining away for his college girlfriend -- who's watching that movie?"
*Paris (when buzzer goes off):  "Pencils down!"
*Lorelai's entire "holding onto the bumper" scene was brilliant.  It was the perfect analogy for how she was feeling in season 6.
*Rory:  "There's nothing good about a goodbye.  It's a poorly named ritual.  It was a bad bye.  A very bad bye."
*Lorelai:  "Things with me friends are good.  Things with me inn are good.  Things with me -- not so good."
*Lorelai:  "We should probably talk about how we're not going to talk because I don't think we should just go right into it."
*Lorelai:  "Yeah, because drunk people never feel like talking."
*Lorelai:  "We could do that running where it's like leap around a tree and up a hill . . ."
Rory:  "You want to run cross country?"
Lorelai:  "Not across the whole country, maybe just Michigan.'
*Rory:  "Michel, what sports do you play?"
Michel:  "Well, since I'm maimed and potentially for life I may never play sports again."
Lorelai:  "Think back before this tragic and life-altering injury, what sports did you play then?"
*Lorelai:  "What are the clothes like?"
Rory:  "Can we wear cute outfits?"
*Lorelai:  "And no talking."
Rory:  "Except for smack talking because I'm soooo gonna kick you butt in racquetball!  No, no I mean my balls they're gonna bounce like way further than your balls!"
Lorelai:  "Well, you haven't seen my great top . . . flick . . . wrist. . ."
*Lorelai:  "Rocket, rocket, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Bennie and the Jets, Candle in the . . ."
Rory:  "Are you just naming Elton John songs?"
Lorelai:  "He is just sooooo talented!"
*Rory:  "What about space?"
Lorelai:  "It's the final frontier?"
*Rory:  "Like I'm his rock - ET.  Like I'm his rock in the Eastern time zone."
*Lorelai:  "When I have made 1 zillion dollars from my rocket gum invention, you will eat those words."
*Rory:  "How can you not have ice?"
Lorelai:  "You know I don't cook."
Rory:  "That is not cooking, that is the opposite of cooking.  That is freezing."
*Rory:  "I said no to one, and I said no to two.  What do you think happened here, I got a brain transplant or something?"
Lorelai:  "I remember, you were very rude."
*Lorelai:  "Maybe I should just go to IKEA!"
*Lorelai:  "Waa, waa, waa!"
Rory:  "Chachi, right?"
Lorelai:  "Proud."

The nauseous look on Rory's face, like that was exactly what she was thinking (only in Logan-friendly Rory-words.)

Like most of you, I agree that the episode was lacking in bite and color just a little, but that the new writer did do a nice job, worthy of the show and characters. I'm excited for the season.  As a brand new poster, I just wanted to get a couple things off my collective chest:

I love Luke, but he is kind of boring.  All he cares about is the diner, fishing, and Lorelai.  He is not into music, TV, movies, pop culture, or witty banter - it's amazing he and Lorelai get along as well as they do.  Granted, they do have chemistry, and Christopher is a spoiled rich kid who is not altogether trustworthy, but I still think Luke would bore Lorelai over the long run.  Lets face it, Luke is a great guy, but not the brightest mind.  Lorelai is not intellectual, but she's bright as Rockefeller Center on 12/24.  Christopher and Lorelai come from the same background, they have a long history, the same sense of humor, and they have a child together; if they went to therapy together, I think they would work out.  But that would make a boring TV show, thus, Luke and Lorelai...
Dean was also VERY boring, and again, I wonder how he kept Rory's interest.  Jess was the best thing to happen to that relationship, and my favorite overall character.  Logan, as a man, I just don't trust him (I think all you female posters are blinded to his negative traits cause he's so "dreamy").  He has too many opportunities as a good-looking, ivy-league scion, and rocket metaphor or no, I don't know if he's deep enough for Rori (That was Jess's department).  If he doesn't cheat on Rori again with a Kate Beckinsale look-alike I will eat my GG t-shirt.
I also agree that Rori was more charming this episode than of late.  Sometimes it seems everything goes her way too much, (even if she works hard for it), and she seems too perfect, what w/ her Yale sweatshirts, rich G-parents, handsome-rich-clever b-friend, funny-beautiful-understanding Mom, perfect skin, Banana Republic wardrobe, and one-liners.  I think ASP was aware of this when she had the scene of Rori getting out of Emily's Jag in front of her fellow juvenile offenders, and them all kind of hating her. The point being, she's still very "perfect" in the new episode, but also more charming than the last couple seasons.  Maybe Ms. Bledel was ready for a new creative team behind her...?
But I think Mr. Rosenthal will write some great episodes.  The show was uneven, but the parts that were great were ASP great.  The SAT prep scene was as funny/sharp as the best moments of past seasons, and he will be writing knowing he has huge shoes to fill, so he will be extra motivated to produce genius.  It will still be funnier and more intelligent than any other hour of TV out there, and that includes "Studio 60...".  Do not despair, GG fans, there will still be many hours of pop perfection ahead, and we still have the return of the honeymooners to look forward to.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but Logan's "dreaminess" has nothing to do with why I like him, negative traits and all.  After all, who doesn't have negative traits?  And, while some people may like him because of his looks (as some people like Jess and Dean because of looks) I think if you took the time to read the posts, you'll see there are others who like him for more than his physical appearance, and that there are those who can acknowledge flaws and still find good traits for him and like him.  For many different reasons.

In the abstract, I don't find Matt Czuchry all that attractive anyway. Not enough to be considered "dreamy"  So, no blindness on my part.

Now who else wants to see that Twilight Zone episode?? I sure do. hehe. The whole Rocket gift and reference to "the long morrow" was great. It parallels a lot of things going on in the girls' lives and it makes sense that the writers chose it as the episode title.

In regards to rory/logan:
- logan's reference to "true love"
- it represents their situation in that they will be physically apart for some time
- that they would wait for each other or find ways to be together despite the distance and time apart

In regards to lorelai/luke:
- it is very sad, but I think the story in a sense is saying that she couldn't wait for luke. I'm not saying that it is not true love for L/L...coz I think it is...but the story just seems to hit really close to home in terms of waiting for the one you love thing.
- the story also parallels the fact that they keep missing the opportunities to be at the same place at the same time. In the long morrow, the guy took himself out of suspended animation and the girl put herself in suspended animation leaving us with a feeling of "how unfortunate that the timing seems off and they can't be with each other like they want." With luke and lorelai...lorelai was ready but luke wasn't, and now luke says he's ready and she's not not in that same place anymore due to her mistake.

I also really liked Lorelai long "luke driving a car" analogy. Very fitting.

Overall, I liked the episode. It felt weird that Emily and Richard did not make an appearance and I do think the dialogue may seem a tad overboard..but the whole twilight zone episode was really great.

I realized something the other night.  When we left Season 6, the town was overrun with troubadours.  When we returned in Season 7, there appeared to be no sign of them.  Taylor was no longer cruisading to be rid of them and was instead working on the stop light camera.  I realize that GG drops storylines all the time without closing them out, but I hope something as "big" as a troubadour invasion gets wrapped up.

Okay, you analytical people here's something to have a go at.  What do you think the rocket represents in terms of what Logan sees as love in a practical sense?  I mean, I know it stood for his favorite Twilight Zone episode, which he declared showed "true love."  But, realistically, Logan is never going to be in a position where he has to choose between staying young in suspended animation or growing old with Rory. So, taking the TZ episode as a metaphor, how would you say Logan defines love in this world, and again in real world terms, is he showing any examples of that?

I wasn't quite sure if this fit here or in either the relationship or character thread, but since it is about the rocket in this episode, I put it here.  Just let me know if it fits better elsewhere and I'll move it.  Oh, and for once, I don't have an answer to the question. Shocked

Well, I think some people think true love is the "I can't live one second without you" ideal fantasy kind of thing.  And I think that's how Rory was sort of seeing it thoughout the episode (moping after 7 hours, wanting to hop on a plane immediately, disappointed with waiting until christmas).

I also think some people view true love more realistically.  Understanding that you're meant for each other and being secure/confident with that.  I think Logan sees true love this way, based on his present and the meaning it carries in reference to the TZ episode.

I haven't seen the TZ episode, but I'm envisioning something like this:  Astronaut gets signed up for this mission.  Then he meets the woman of his dreams.  If he were in the "I can't live without you for one second" camp, I think he would have either opted to not go on the mission, or (unrealistically) had her join him in space.  However, that's not what he decided.  It sounds like he was confident in how they were meant for each other that he knew they could wait 40 years for each other, so he still went on the mission.

Logan seems comfortable with their love, enough so that he doesn't need to have her by his side to stay connected to her, or to keep their love alive, or to make sure he doesn't stray.

At least I think that's what we are supposed to get from the present.  I'm not 100% sure if I buy it, though.  While I don't hate Logan, I just don't give much of a crap about their relationship, that's all.

Maybe the rocket was a subtle dig at L&L. After the split, Luke was in 'suspended animation,' feeling surreal with his life on hold. In the meantime, Lorelai was getting on with her life and (ha ha) moving forward.

Well, didn't the official town troubador come back and say he got booed off the stage? That probably discouraged the aspiring troubadors.

I agree, certain story lines start and the you wonder what happened!  Not to get off topic here, but what ever happened with the job that Rory got with the newspaper? The one she told Lorelai she got when they were on the phone right before they ran together and hugged and reconciled.  I don't remember that getting brought up again, but maybe I missed something??

I do agree in saying that L/L need some time apart to sort things out with themselves, and everything. The thing is though, how long can this last? Luke has always been a main character and if Lorelai doesn't want to see him anymore - then he really won't be in the episodes. Of course they can show his side of the story, but how good can that be without the Gilmores invovled? There are ways to incorporate him in there, and of course using Rory, they can, but overtime they are going to keep using the same methods? I guess we'll have to see what happens.
