Emily plans an elaborate 21st birthday party for Rory, who is saddened that her rift with Lorelai will prevent them from spending the day they way they had always planned. Richard wants Lorelai to help him get Rory back to Yale.

So what do you guys think? Is this gunna be the moment we have all been wanting for so long? Will Rory and Lorelai make up?

I think its possible that they will at least talk. I mean come on you gotta say something to your kid when they turn the big 21. I'm glad that Richard is wanting to team up with Lorelai to try and get Rory back to Yale but I do think its something Rory has to want. I think she does miss Yale. I think she does want to still do the whole journalism thing but is just scared to be a failure. She feels like she has so much to live up to. I know Lorelai wants more for her than she had and Richard and Emily want her to be the success that Lorelai wasn't. I mean Lorelai is successful in her own way and I love that she's doing her own thing but in their eyes its not what they planned for their daugther.

Oh they better make up or just even talk, civilized like to each other! lol, I have been getting really impatient with this season. And Rory has to go back to Yale, otherwise there's no real point to the show, since she has no real structure in her life right now besides the DAR. I also think she needs to get out of that club QUICKLY because she's become a little snob. I want the old Rory back! Smiley

Wow!  Fantastic episode in my opinion.  It got the trifecta from me: I laughed (too many funny things to list), I cried (soon to be explained), and I went "awwwwww" (Luke's "You can pull linked sausages out of me if you want" line).

I know this is jumping ahead, but this is the strongest thing standing out in my head right now.  I usually don't get very emotional, but I teared up when Emily said "We have not failed until that girl comes home pregnant."  I knew something like that was coming, but it still shocked me with how harsh it was.  I just felt so terrible for Lorelai.  While I understand Emily's feeling of desperation in the moment, that was too cruel.

And then when Richard started going on about how wrong Rory's life was, I saw where that was going too.  I just said "woah, there is a lot of mud-slinging going on tonight."  I did think that Richard was harsh (should have been able to watch how that came out of his mouth) but Emily really shouldn't have taken it quite so personally (though it's understandable in the heat of the moment).  The difference between Rory and Emily is that Emily is leading the life she always wanted to lead.  But Rory isn't leading the one RORY had wanted to lead.  She's giving up her dreams, that's the difference.  Emily's life isn't bad or wrong, it just is for Rory.

Jumping back, I am so so glad Emily saw Lorelai's ring.  When Rory introduced Luke to that DAR woman, I thought the engagement wasn't going to come up with Emily/Richard at the party, and then someone in the DAR would mention it to Emily at a meeting in a future episode and Emily would be super (and rightly) pissed again to be the last to know.  While it would have been better for Lorelai to have told her parents earlier, and while Emily might be one of the last to know, at least she found out from Lorelai (willingly or not) and not from an outsider.  I totally understand Lorelai not wanting to share that with her parents, and I may come off preachy, but that's something you suck up and do.  I have a bad relationship with my mother... I'm perfectly happy not talking to her for years (not exaggerating).  When I got engaged, I hadn't seen my mom in 7 months (of course, she lives in Japan) and I don't know how many months since I'd talked to her on the phone.  But guess who I called the the next day?  The only people who knew before my parents were Dave's family because they were "there" sort of.  Wow, I really came off preachy.  Sorry.

Instead of trying to take her mother's place, I was hoping Logan would contact Lorelai and tell her how much Rory missed her - that she is completely disinterested in this big birthday since she won't be celebrating it with her mom the way she had planned.  Don't get me wrong, I think it was better the way it happened (it meant so much to Lorelai to know that Rory was upset that she didn't know if Lor was coming or not because up till then she didn't think Rory cared).  But I was hoping for some gesture from Logan to redeem himself to me (again, I don't hate him, just strongly dislike him so far) and showing that bit of decency would have helped a lot.

On that same topic, I thought it was so cute how Rory was really disinterested in the party plans since she was bummed about her mom, and then when Emily mentioned inviting Lorelai she got so perked up she got into the party planning.

I thought it was good that Rory was honest with the Reverend (by the way, I thought a reverend and a minister were two different kinds of things.  Like from different churches or something.  I have no clue though) and didn't try to let him think she was a virgin without actually lying just to keep her grandparents from knowing.  When she couldn't get into the poolhouse, though, I thought they kicked her out completely.  And then when I found out they moved her into the big house I laughed so hard.  Silly people.  Like the only place she could have sex is in her own bed.  So if she can't have sex in her own bed then she won't be having sex at all.  I realize that's not the point... they didn't want to facilitate.  But still, it seems a bit silly at that point.  Richard lementing "I paid $40,000 to redecorate her sex-house, I bought her her sex-matress, her sex-box-springs" and his "I feel so much better now" when Lorelai said she'd popped her cherry long ago was AWESOME.

Anyways, many many T-shirt worthy lines.  So much to laugh over and cry over.

I liked the part with Richard in his office. He is finally getting it!! Emily just amazes me!! She has no clue! I also didn't like the way it ended, but it was much better than last week's episode. I think Rory being upset about Paris becoming the editor might wake her up a little too, hopefully anyway!! I can't believe Jess is back next week!! That is exciting!  Angry Grin

The way they made it sound, there won't be a new episode next week. Meaning we'll have to wait for Jess to show up and SMACK RORY UPSIDE HER FOOL HEAD.

YAY!
Gilmore Girls is back on track-- or at least I think so. That was an awesome episode to break the chain of rather bland ones. Many, many good things:

-good L/L moments
-sweet Luke/Rory moment
-Richard/Emily conflict over Rory's life (okay, maybe not good, but at least interesting)
-at least SOME talk between Rory and Lorelai that seemed halfway normal
-When she was ranting and at various other points, Rory actually seemed like her earlier, better self, which was a nice relief

I also loved the Zach/Logan contrast, Luke's My Little Pony drink comment, the conversation with the reverend, Emily finding out about the engagement, Luke's DAR "line", Richard's mood, and the very last scene in the truck. It felt like so much that was filler last week actually finally happened this week.

PROMO INFO
Plus, the episode where Jess returns and brings Rory back to reality looks so good. Maybe he's the one she'll finally listen to-- I loved what he said just in the previews. (Does anyone know when the next episode will air? It said "in the coming weeks", not next week).

Oh and regarding the next one, the show returns November 8th. Luckily it's only a week break and not anything longer Smiley
