Summary: When she accidentally loses the tiny chick that is Rory's (Alexis Bledel) science project, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) calls Luke (Scott Patterson) to help her search the house, but he misreads her cry for help as a romantic invitation. Meanwhile, Rory quarrels with her boyfriend Dean (Jared Padalecki) when he admits that he finds the idea of a Donna Reed-type housewife charming, so she surprises him with a traditional home-cooked dinner.

The show was great, as all are. I thought it was very nice of Rory do make a dinner for dinner and thought the whole thing was romantic in a way. I felt bad for Luke though. The whole Donna Read bit in the beginning was funny though.  Smiley Sorry if I jumped around.

In the first season there were a lot of little things that made you think that by the end of the season something would happen between Luke and Lorelai but of course nothing did. That night looking for Stella was kind of cute though. As for Rory and Dean I thought it was really cute that because Dean thought the whole consept of having a perfect evening and she made it happen some what is was really nice.

Rory was so sweet to do that and LUKE was amazing!!!! they definitely showed something between the two of them..you could see the sparks flying!!!!! Smiley and it was just funny with the whole bird thing...though then again the show is basically a comody (though its listed as a drama)

Most important element to this one episode that totally made it: the pearls!!!  Yes Lorelai had every right to laugh at Rory for what she was wearing; however, I think it was in poor choice of Rory to have a boy over like that.  It was a very, very good choice to have Luke over like that (even though she was wearing some underwear).

Interesting to note that this first season of GG, I believe, was entered in the drama category for the Emmys.  All seasons afterword have been entered in the comedy category.  The line blurs, even though GG is an hour long like most dramas traditionally are, it contains better comedy than a lot of half-hour sitcoms.  I admire ASP & crew for sticking to comedy, even though, especially in the past several years, the competition in the comedy category (Friends, Frasier, Raymond) has been arguably stronger than that in the drama category.

I've always thought of GG as a drama.  Sure, a light drama, but a drama.  I'd only go so far as to call it a dramedy (drama with touches of comedy).  I think they should have a dramedy category.  GG isn't serious enough to compete against heavy handed dramas.  And, when they try too hard to fit into comedy they turn shlocky.  In later seasons they tried to make GG a full on comedy and lost a lot of the magic of the show.

And, just to keep this on topic, I had no problem with Dean's comments about liking the Donna Reed scenes.

Rory is a REALY nice girl. She didn't really hate anybody except when it came to Paris and Even then Rory wasn't truley hateful. I think what Rory did for Dean was part of her kind character and it was realy cute. I would have been totally embarrased about it but she was awesome. Another cute thing was Lorelia and Luke coming over. SO FUNNY!!

See, I always thought the dinner was Rory trying to teach Dean a lesson about being a chauvinist.  You know, give him what he wants so he'll see it's not as great as he thought.

I thought that Rory thought that is what Dean really wanted, and so for one night she decided that she will give Dean what he "wanted".
