But, her intelligence was the original topic brought up.  So, why is April's intelligence annoying?  Because there are too many smart characters?  Because that is somehow unoriginal? Because April is honing in on Rory's territory of being smart?  (I'm throwing that out because of this quote):

Quote
I just don't like April. Why did Luke get a smart kid like Lorelai did?? That is my big question.

Interesting that the question was specifically about Luke having something like Lorelai.  They both got smart kids.  Not merely, "I don't like April"

I think I will leave that one to miloismine to answer, since I did not start this thread. I can only say that her intelligence isn't what annoys me, it's the fact that her character was introduced at all. Are you lurking around somewhere love?

Dani, I think, at least, what I got out of it,w as that it was the sheer number of 'geniuses' around, that seemed like it was too many to be feesable.

okokok so this is what I think dani257 and flex151 and whoever else (I'm sorry that im kinda confusing):

I don't like that April is in the show, partly because it was totally out of no where and not so interesting.  But what adds on to the dislike of April is that they made her into a genius child, which is a prominent trait that she shares with Rory and a few other characters.  This isn't an issue of just being smart.  Yes, I like that most of the characters are smart because there is no such thing as a witty dumb person.  It's just this young super inteligence thing that I wish wasn't repeated for April. Just a thought....I wonder if there may have been specific reasons that April's character was created to be a smart girl.

First of all, the way she found out about Luke was through a science fair at school. Wouldn't she have to be pretty intelligent to do, or even think about doing, dna testing?

What I was thinking though, is maybe they could be setting up the character for future bonding with Rory instead of replacing Rory with her.  Wouldn't Rory be able to relate to someone like April since April is supposed to be so smart and driven just like Rory was?

Both excellent points, especially the DNA testing project.

Just wanted to let whoever might be interested know that I did a more complete post on April and "jumping the shark" in the April Unappreciation thread: http://www.gilmoregirls.org/forum/index.php?topic=2665.0

Hmm, the bit that got to me is how little she seemed to care. I mean, if I was finding out who my real father was, I think I'd be a little more emotionally involved than she was

The whole thing was kind of bizarre...I would think Anna would have been a little more involved seeing as how protective she is with her daughter.   Did Anna not know the project April was doing for school?  I can't imagine having a daughter doing a dna test to see who her father is for school???  Then nobody tells Luke the results before he sees the poster at the science fair. Seems strange that they only plan to determine that Luke is the father for science, but don't care whether he is involved or not in her life until he insists that he wants to be. I could go on and on...but I agree about there being some lack of emotion here!

Yes, you're right! Surely Anna would have an opinon. If she didn't even want April to meet Lorelai just in case she got attatched, you'd think she'd have something to say about her doing th DNA experiemtns to find outwho her Dad is. And then there's the whole 'what was going on around the time of Aprils conception so that she didn't know which one was the Father' thing.
But we're way OT, my apologies.

I like that GG is smart. Its smartly written and I like that Rory and April are very smart girls. There is nothing wrong with that in my mind.

Hey, I don't know about you, but I would much rather invest my time and watch a show with intelligent characters rather than dumb ones.  I for one have definently learned a thing or two by watching Gilmore Girls.  If Rory, Paris, Jess, and April were all on the same intelligence level as Madeline and Louise, then it would make for one boring "dumb blondeish style" teen sitcom.  I enjoy watching a show with characters of higer intelligence that I can look up to and learn a thing or two from.

I totally agree with you, I would definitely want to watch an intelligently show. Instead of the run of the mill teenage drama or more forensics programming. Shocked

omgggg I should probably edit my first post because you guys are definatly missing my point! Yes, this is a smart show, and that's super, but I don't like it how they made both Lorelai's daughter and Luke's daughter almost genius like.  I thought it was nice how Lorelai would talk about how mature and intellegent Rory was at age 4, but the fact that April's Mother could say the same about April just annoys me. I'm not talking about just smartness but rather the genius level Rory and April are both at.  And I know the title of this whole thing is confusing, but I just thought it would get people's attention  Star
