I liked how Christopher got his act together. I agree that it was sad when he had to tell Lorelai that he was with someone else. Ugh, that was awful....poor Lorelai!

I love the contrast between Rory's coming out and Lorelai's coming out. Rory is the granddaughter Richard and Emily never had, and you see that here, the sense that Rory is a Lorelai do-over (symbolic even in her name!) Richard and Emily are always trying to redeem themselves for the mess the think they made of Lorelai, never mind the irony in the fact she raised a Rory.

I'm not sure I like it... I think its quite sad for Lorelai... She'd feel like "the one who didn't work out" compared to Rory... To Emily and Richard, its like Rory is the 2nd chance Lorelai.... the second chance to get the Lorelai they wanted. It would just be awful to be in Lorelai's position.... to feel that you never lived up to the parents expectations.. but hey... they're taking over my daughter now to have another go.

I think the scene where Emily says something like- "this isn't right...it should have been you up there...nothing's turning out like it was supposed to" to Lorelai is quite sad. The scene was very poignant. I also think Emily's statement suggests that they cannot just forget about Lorelai and start over with Rory. That she can't be replaced, that the pain of what they didn't have with her is still there. Of course, Emily speaks angrily, because that's what she always does, and yes, it probably made Lorelai feel like s**t. Still...
My interpretation is an optimistic one, I admit- it's possible that Emily is just upset because things weren't done in a proper society manner. But Emily has expressed pain before about her relationship with Lorelai, about the things they've lost, that I think was meaningful.
I really enjoyed the scenes with L/C in this ep- I'm a big L/L fan (minus the last 6 eps or so-at this point I just want the nightmare to end). But 2.06 was the first time I really saw and appreciated the chemistry between L/C.

This epsoide is one of my favorite ever epsoides. Its just so classic Gilmore. I love when they go to Lukes after the ball and Lorelai tells Rory off for not being lady like. Then Rory sticks her pinky finger out while eating her burger and Lorelai says thats better! Classic

Poor Richard. His life going so poorly and no one to talk to about it. Emily didn't act coldly about his revelation so much as caught off guard. With him working so hard, his retirement was probably the absolute last thing she expected him to confess when she finally confronted him about his attitude.
It's also the first hint we get that Richard may have given up some of his professional efficiency to support Emily's social responsibilities. Surely she was looking forward to his retirement (in a far off, eventually kind of way,) not understanding how much his work meant to him. But to be fair, until that moment he hid a lot of his concern over a single lost account.
I also think it was a good way to show that Rory isn't fully adjusted to her mother's life decisions. She seems like a pawn in this situation, but she was the driving force behind the 'deb'acle and I think she was secretly trying to put her family back together.
Underneath her brave, genuine exterior, she is still a girl who grew up poor and without a father in a conservative town. She longs for the father and the lifestyle that her mother left behind and deep down, that image of her family, reunited, happy, and rich holds a lot of power to get her involved in functions that suck them all in.
With subtle moves, promising Emily and telling Lorelai she didn't have to get involved (ha!), she actually managed to put an idea into her mother's head. I swear, it would have worked if he hadn't been seeing someone.

Yeah, me too!
I like the way Jess can always get a rise out of Luke, who usually isn't baited too easily. The cap&flannel scene was hilarious, but it was also kind of a hint that Luke sees himself in Jess and feels like he's turned into his father.

That was really funny!! Jess cracks me up.
I thought the whole coming-out idea was cute. It was good to see Chris come through for Rory. I thought it was great how we finally got her that dictionary thing.
I love the girl Libby in this episode..she cracks me up!!
Richard made me mad in this episode. He loves//adores Rory and he didnt want to participate//enjoy her special night.
I was really sad for Lorelai when Chris said he was seeing someone.."Linda from marketing get to ya??" LOL.

What I liked most about this eposide is that Chris was there. With the matter of a phone call, he was there for is daughter. I really liked that. He was a good sport about the whole thing and didi not disappoint anyone.
I can understand Richard's meltdown. He DID try to tell Emily earlier but she just sort of brushed it off. He was arfaid. He has worked hard all of his life and accomplished many things and in an instant, he was being phased out. His reaction was totally understandable.
Rory's dress was horrible! Out of all of the dresses, hers was by far the most ugly. Poor Dean, I think that was the last thing on Earth he wanted to do aside from witnessing the embarassing fan dance!

Yes, Christopher was very good in this episode. I also like that he remembered to bring Rory the OED.

When they all came out and were waving those fans, I thought I was going to die. What the hell was that song they were playing?

I thought Dean looked cute in his tux too
yeah, what I didn't like about the chapter was Richard's burst out, as for me he didn't handle his job situation well and c'mon Rory was doing her presentation to society he should've been more respectful about it.
Dean is so cute, I rather have Rory staying with him than with Logan . Jess, As for me he never existed in the show, bad mannered boy with no sense of respect... a little funny though, the part when the swan attacked him, hilarious, well that's not part of this season so bye.
Dean rulz, Logan's cute xP I like them both.
Dolce
how can you say that about jess! and dean is sweet so annoying and logan is a self absorbed snob but anyway this isn't rory's boyfrend discussion so about this episode i loved it but i never would have had a coming out party myself cos its a little odd!
i felt sorry for lorelai and emily though
i loved jess dressing up like luke!!!
jess is so funny!
