Yeah, Lorelai kind of middled up. But the fact that Richard needed to gang up with someone to win against Emily says something.  Wink
Although Emily has her sick ways to be in Lorelai's life and try to control it, she also cares and wants to be a part of that life in a desperate way but for Richard he never seemed to care. As long as he has his Lorelai-replacement he's fine.

Yep, for Lorelai she's got one parent who is oblivious and another who is ultra-controlling. Solution: live in Star's Hollow.

Funny to say the Solution is to move to Star's Hollow because Chris's own solution was to move to California. They are so much a like!  Wink Yeah, Chris's fan is here!

Looking at it that way, Lorelai's move wasn't so extreme. Star's Hollow is only about 30 miles away from her parents house. Chris moved 3,000 miles away. But his parents - his father at least - are probably worse than Lorelai's, based on what we saw and knew of his father. On the other hand, Lorelai was in a sense 3,000 miles away even when she lived at home with her parents.

I like what you said that Lorelai was 3,000 miles away even when she lived at her parent's house. So true! It must have been hard to be a stranger in that place all her time growing up. She still has some issues that she has to work on. But i wonder why didn't she move to some place far far away. Maybe it was the money issue. I like how Lorelai raised rory in a small town where every one knows everyone, like an extended family in a way.

I think what Richard is going through is the fact that his usefulness isn't needed.  He's someone who likes to be useful, work, and come home to a good dinner.  The fact that he's being phased out must've upset him and he expected some sympathy from Emily, who is pretty clueless about all of this.

I think Chris did a good thing in showing up, being supportive of Rory and Lorelai, helping Dean out with the bow tie, and things.  For a moment, he was about to do something right but... he's a f*ck-up.  He has a girlfriend.  Boo...  Named Sherry

I hate that song!

Metallica rules indeed!  (via the first five albums).  Jess in the flannel and hat... hilarious.

The ending was sad.  Lorelai deciding to hang out with her mother but neither of them have something to say.  Well, at least Lorelai just wanting to hang out with her mother is a start.

i was shocked by her even wanting to be a debutant! i mean lorelai always told rory how much she hated that life and rory went straight to it! Well at least for a day. But its only because she is a very sweet girl and knew it would make her grandma very happy

Richard was a complete jerk on this episode.

No he wasn't.  He was frustrated because he was being phased out by the people he worked for.  It was the fact that everything he enjoyed doing was suddenly being taken away and is dealing with the fact that he would be unable to get up, put on his suit, grab his suitcase, and go to work.  It was Emily that was being unsympathetic.

Richard was a jerk,  for the way he behaved at the Cortillion.

not about his job situation.
