Summary: While Lorelai (Lauren Graham) volunteers her organizational skills to help her father Richard (Edward Herrmann) set up his consulting business, Rory (Alexis Bledel) slowly realizes that everyone in Stars Hollow blames Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) for the accident that led to her broken wrist, and her anger and guilt finally erupt in an outburst directed at her grandmother Emily (Kelly Bishop). Meanwhile, Lane (Keiko Agena) discovers a new dream of becoming a rock drummer when a former New Yorker named Sophie (guest star Carole King, record-breaking "Tapestry" album) opens the town's first music store.

Oh my goodness. I just happened to turn to this episode on ABC family, and came in on the Rory/Lorelai argument. And, shock of all shocks, Rory gets upset about everyone treating her like a mindless idiot being led by a boy! She wants to take her share of responsibility for the accident. She's not willing to say that it's all Jess' fault. It makes Lorelai's own eagerness to lay all the blame on Jess much easier to take, because it comes across as a mother's unwillingness to see anything wrong with her child, a real flaw. It doesn't come across as Rory is a princess. Even the town falling in line, while more annoying is aleviated by Rory saying she's not a puppet and she's not being led around by boys. Very interesting in light of some Logan criticisms.
Would the Rory of today say the same things? Especially considering that she's actively made some worse decisions now, than this episode, which was really an accident?

I think this was just classical of Rory wanting to do the right thing, and wanting to share the blame. It was her car. She did say to do another right turn. But then again Jess was driveing. He was 'in charge of the vehicle' as such. All in all it was still an accident that could have happened to anyone.. She was just shocked that the whole town had just outsed Jess some more. It was the town putting Jess' rep ahead of how the accident actually panned out which was unfair. It was just another thing that Jess didn't really need to be hated for. He didn't deserve the full responsiblity... On another note, I dont think Lorelai was just blameing Jess because of the whole mother's unwillingness to see anything wrong with her child. Its also whom else is there that could be responsible.. and as with the majority of the town... Jess had the rep of being bad...
The Rory of today has a hell of alot more knowledge, experience and hopefully with that wisdom... Would we all make the same decisions that we have made in the past?

No, I agree it wasn't anyone's fault. It was an accident. But, in light of "little birds dress her" and "Logan did this to Rory and Logan made Rory do that" and "Rory's like an angel you put on the Christmas tree" and other things that have been said at various times that seem to indicate that the viewer is supposed to see Rory as some saint, or worse someone who can't make a decision on her own (Logan couldn't do have the things that he's accused of unless he practiced mind control over Rory) it's just nice to hear someone not describe Rory as perfect. Even if it's Rory herself. And, it was very mature of her to do so. The accident itself wasn't her fault (or Jess', since it was an accident) but the townspeople and Lorelai were acting like Jess tied her up, threw her in the car and purposely wrecked it. Or that Jess practiced his special boy hoodoo art (the hoodoo art Logan currently has) to get Rory in trouble.
It was nice of Rory not to put the whole blame on Jess. But, it was more than nice. It was a real "you go, girl" moment for Rory herself. She was saying that she is a fully functioning human being. She wasn't someone who could be led around by a boy. I think she was frustrated because, maybe in their eagerness to turn on Jess, everyone treated her like an idiot. Taylor could have just accepted Rory's apology, or told her that it was okay. But, I think Babette is what made Rory say she was being treated like she was being led around by a boy. I mean, she went on and on about Rory losing her morals and good common sense. I think it was a little insulting how the town was treating her. Rory wasn't beating herself up or taking undue responsibility over the accident. She wasn't taking any more responsibility than she actually had. And, telling her no, not letting her do it, or even just telling her it's okay, no hard feelings, is the mental equivalent of patting her on the head and saying she's too stupid to be held accountable for anything. Did they mean to imply that? No, they meant to imply that Jess was all bad. But, I still think that they inadvertantly insulted Rory, and I'm glad she didn't like it.

I thought it was really responsible of Rory for her to try and take the blame of the accident. I think it really showed that she cared about Jess. I also liked when she was talkin to Luke, and he agreed that he didnt think it was Jess's fault either.
I thought it was really cool of Lorelai to help out Richard. I mean I know there was no way of it being permanent..but it was kinda sad to see his face when she told him that she couldnt stay.
**I thought it was funny when Lorelai said to pick up pins and Richard picked up only 2 pins.

This was a really good episode. I thought it was so great of Rory to try to convince everybody the accsident wasn't all jess's fault. I also loved the scene of Luke and Rory talking in the diner. They both understood eachother and it was great they could talk like that when Rory didn't really have anyone else to talk to about it.

I think that Rory taking the responsibility for the accident was very mature and responsible of her. Clearly she likes Jess and the town hates Jess. On the other hand, the town loves Rory and Rory is trying to make the town like Jess. Rory is trying to do whatever she can do to make the town like Jess. They didn't like him from the begining and the accident didn't help his image much either.
I really liked the secenes of Loerlai and her dad. I thought that the shopping for office supplies was so funny!

LORELAI: Good. . .now can I put a pen on top of your head?
RORY: No. Mom?
LORELAI: Oh good, hold still.
RORY: Forget the pen.
LORELAI: Drat!
RORY: When are you gonna tell me what happened between you and Luke? Was it bad? I mean, I’m sure it was bad, but how bad is bad?
LORELAI: It was nothing.
RORY: Really?
LORELAI: Look, I was upset, he was upset, we had a thing. It’s over, we’re fine.
RORY: A thing?
LORELAI: A tiny thing.
RORY: A tiny thing?
LORELAI: A thinglet, if you will.
RORY: You and Luke don’t have thinglets very often.
LORELAI: Oh no, Rory, everybody has thinglets, it’s part of being a grown up.
RORY: Well, what did he say? What did you say?
LORELAI: Rory, please.
RORY: Well, okay, fine, just answer me this – we are on our way to Luke’s, right?
LORELAI: Right.
RORY: And when we get there, will we get in?
LORELAI: Of course we’ll get in.
RORY: Will we get served?
LORELAI: Yes.
RORY: Will we get coffee?
LORELAI: Maybe.
RORY: Refills?
LORELAI: Eventually.
RORY: Free refills?
LORELAI: In about a month.
RORY: Okay, the thinglet has grown into a thing.
LORELAI: Rory, Luke and I have fought before, God knows we’ll fight again, but it’s over, it’s history. We’ll go in, he’ll be crabby, I’ll be adorable, he’ll forget everything and that, as they say, will be that.
RORY: Okay.
i was so upset when luke went "fishing"...
