I feel so bad for him, and even when Rory walks out of the room crying, he goes after her and says it wasnt her.But,*as i said earlier* Rory thought Dean was perfect and the town thought They were perfect and he was crap,when he saw her with him on the stairs, he obviosly got mad. *Personaly,I would too.*  And that "look in his eyes" you were saying to Cody, I saw it too! lol

   I hate this episode...I always get SO depressed. I can't STAND Rory in this because shee runs back to Dean and let's him assume the worst and storms out on Jess when he tried to explain. She should have known SOMETHING was going on. UGH I get so frustrated! LOL.

Of course I saw it,Imy!  Every true Literati saw it,and Rory had it back...in most episodes. Like 22.8 miles,that was so sweet. And if you don't know what that is,then your not the Literati i thought you were. LOL

I totaly agree w/ Jess. But on Rory's side, she was really upset.At the beggining(b4 Jess said"you didnt do anything") she thought he was mad cause she wouldnt have sex with him. So she was crying and ran downstairs,not paying attention to him,and Dean was just kinda there.She (i think) didn't see him as her ex-boyfriend who her current boyfriend hated, she saw Dean as the guy she counted on for so long,and rarely let her down. But,Im not going back on what I said earlier,I still totaly believe it.Jess was sad and upset.Angry that he'd have to disapoint everyone he loved. (Or,in other peoples believe,cared for)

Emily~ AMEN SISTA FRIEND!!! and of course i see that look all the time its there all the way through season2 and its also there in season4 when he comes back to talk to her! and its there in season6 and the list could go on forever!! I think that perhaps it was a little foolish of Rory to stop and talk to Dean because she had to know that Jess would take it the wrong way. I would take it the wrong way. And I just feel so sorry for Jess because I think that if Rory hadn't stormed out the bedroom and if she had heard him say 'you didn't do anything' then maybe he would have opened up to her she just needed to be patient because Jess doesn't open up easily because when someone like Jess opens up they become more vulnerable and Jess has already been hurt before by his family that he didn't want to be vulnerable to Rory if that makes any sense! If only she had stayed to hear what he had to say. aww poor Jess.

Yeah! Like,I wasnt saying that Rory should have talked to Dean,she knew Jess would be upset,but-as i said b4- She wasnt thinking clearly,and she thought her boyfriend was mad that she wouldnt have sex with him,so she wasnt thinking.If she was,she probaly wouldnt have done that! And I so agree with you on the whole Jess and opening up thing.Everyone he suposibly loved,and who was suppose to love him bailed on him.His dad left him as a baby,and his mother was a wack job that sent him to live with a uncle he never met.Then,he finially found people he could count on and he loved(Rory and Luke) and he had let them down.All together,I call that a pretty bad day!

This whole episode was about miscommunication and lack of communication. Nobody knows whats going on and they're all reacting on gut impulse which ultimately leads them all into trouble. Rory can't figure Jess out and his inability to let her in and tell her whats really happening comes to a head. I don't think he was mad at her because she wouldn't sleep with him at all, it was much much more than that. I don't even think she feels that's why he is mad. I think she knows something is up with him and she is frustrated he wont talk. I also don't believe she had any intention of running out of the bedroom and into Dean's arms. That was sheer accident; he was just in her path and stopped her when he saw her crying. Dean was the one in the wrong hen it came to the fight, but you can't blame him too much as it looked very suspect and he had good intentions (well, obviously punching someone is never the answer but he felt he was protecting the girl he loved.) I agree with everyone who said the series had been building up to this fight and I don't think it's out of character at all. I think it is perfectly within the realms of the characters. Rory was flustered and frustrated and became highly emotional running out of the room, Dean was protective and quick to do what he felt was right and Jess was stubborn and strong headed and sad and closed off and caught up in everyone elses ideas of who he is.
The saddest part is the look shared between Jess and Rory at the end because not only is it a signal and realisation that they are over but its almost like regret on Rory's face and disappointment on Jess's. Once again Jess comes off looking like the bad guy and Dean looks like the saviour when it's not the case at all. It's Jess's "I just can't win" moment. I really feel for Jess then!

Exactly!*pretty stick for such a long post!*i think that Rory didnt think of Dean as her ex-boyfriend,she thought of him as her friend.Ya no?I believe 100 percent that she wouldnt have stayed near him if she didnt think of him as her friend Only

Crackrobat - Great post.  I was getting frustrated reading the previous ones, because it seems like everybody thinks Jess is so sad and misunderstood.  Yes his Dad walked out on him, but that doesn't give him the right to treat everybody like dirt.  Rory asked him repeatedly to talk to her about what was bothering him but he wouldn't.  Jess' biggest problem is one that all immature people have.  He's all about how he feels until he's hurt someone.  By then its usually too late.  He thought he was old enough and smart enough to slide on the school thing.  He kept saying he had it all under control.  He wanted to take Rory to the prom, but not bad enough to put up the people and system that he thought was moronic.  But that didn't work out so great.

Crackroboat and Emily~ You are saying what i'm thinking!! and for that I thank you!! This episode is just sooooo sad I hate it but it does have it's good moments so I don't really hate it it's just the sad Jess and Rory bits I hate!

Well,I dont quite believe that! He wanted to take Rory to prom,and bad enough. He just didn't think that would happen,you know? I dont think the Dad thing botherd Jess to much,untill he saw Jimmy again.It was b/c his mom. A acholic mom,and being shipped of to a new town after living in the rough part of N.Y? Now,im not completly excusing everything.But,I think that all that was botteld up and when he relised that he was dissapointing the only people he ever cared about pushed him over the edge he'd been trying so hard to get away from.

I do think Jess was caught up in his teen angst but I think he was truly unaware that his actions would cause so much trouble. When he said he "had it all under control" I think he truly meant it. He believed he had itunder control and I don't think he saw what was coming. I think he thought he was smart enough to coast through not realising that he had to actualy attend to graduate. If it were a matter of sheer smarts then I'm sure he would've been able to coast through, but it was never about that and he never really caught on. I think he thought everything would be better once he and Rory were an item but it almost seemed to make it worse. He ended up with everyone on his back and it made things harder for him instead of easier because now everyone in town was watching him. Jess's bggest hate was people judging him. As hard as he tried to play it cool he was painfully aware of how everyone thought of him and what everyone thought of him being with Rory.

I have a question for everyone: Why do you think Jess ultimately left? Was it escape? Was he aware of the trouble he'd caused Luke and Rory and he thought it best to leave them be and stop hurting those he loved? Was it more selfish and he couldn't stay to see the fallout and misplaced judgement yet again? Was it simply that he wanted to persue a relationship with his father? Or was it a mixture of all of these?

That was a very good post i agree with it all!!!!
I think that he left b/c he was scared and he didn't want to hurt Rory anymore however what he didn't realise that he hurt Rory by leaving more than he hurt her by this party! If only she hadn't stormed out the room he would have opened up to her -i should write a fanfic about that actually!!

I think he lefted because, in Keg!Max! he relised how much he ulitmetly screwed up. He knew he made a mistake,and knew he wanted to take it back,but he couldn't. He was going to dissapoint everyone he ever cared about,and he knew it. I think he thought that leaving would help them all. He wouldn't have to see the dissapointment and live through it,and he thought that they would be better off.

I agree Emily about why he left and he thought that it would be better for Luke and Rory if he left but he knew that it would be bad for him if he left so he sacrificed his happiness so that the people he cared about most could be happy -now that's love!
