Yeah,lol. But really, I dont think he'd leave if in the long run,he think it'd be better for them. I read this fanfic once,(hehe Imy,not yours,but its good,ill look for the link) and they wrote about him explaining and I'll quote it.(it was that good,I remeber) He said "I couldn't please you the way you wanted me to,academicly. I didn't do it. I tried,but it didn't work.I thought if I could please you the only way I could,then you'd still love me. Im sorry" Kinda code,huh? It was sweet..(the fan fic) and I so agree. He tried to do w/e he could to help their relationship....only he started to late.

wow that's really cool! I think that Jess wasn't the only one with a meaning behind his eyes that night before he left there was meaning in rory's too. I think that she knew that it was over then i think she saw what was in Jess' eyes and I think that she also saw the pain and hurt in his eyes that he'd been masking with sarcasm for so long. Pain and hurt from his childhood and from the fact that he knew he had disappointed the two people in the world he will ever care about. People he cares about more than he cares about himself.

There is of course the obvious reason for leaving which is that Luke kicked him out. In essence, he didn't have too much choice but to leave.

Really, I think it was a combination of things. I don't think Jess could live in Stars Hollow anymore. It was too small for him and he was too far on the backfoot. He was hurting the peple he loved and he couldn't stand seeing that, but also his Dad must've been a factor. I think he wanted to know his father better. 

It just upsets me that he is painted as being mad at Rory for not sleeping with him. I just don't see that as being the case. In fact I believe the true reason he has his little outburst at her is because she is thinking that is why he is upset. This only made things worse. Rory keeps saying "What's wrong with you?" and "Did you think this is how it was going to happen?"... He then snaps at her telling her to 'stop', and I think this outburst is because it really has nothing to do with her and not sleeping together but something much deeper.
We, as the watcher, know it's because he failed to get prom tickets and he now knows he will break Rory's heart by not being able to take her to prom. Perhaps he is intentionally pushing her away to make it easier to let her down?

your last line in the post i think is just so sad and most likely true. because he didn't want to make her disappointed so he decided to give her up so as not to hurt her. He gave up the one girl he has ever loved and will ever love so that she doesn't have to be hurt. So with that in mind it really annoys me when people say that he was purposefully trying to hurt in this episode because he doesn't really love her because that's so not true.
 and what you said about it really upsetting you when he is painted as being mad at Rory for not sleeping with him i feel the same way too because that's really not what happened. He was upset about not graduating because he knew that would hurt Rory and maybe he knew that he would have to move out because of it and he was upset that she didn't trust him that she was mad because she thought he was mad because she didn't sleep with him just like you said.
He doesn't want to tell her about not graduating because he doesnt' want to see her dissappointed and upset face. The face she had on when Dean broke up with her, he doesn't want to cause her that kind of pain.
When you correctly read into this episode it is just a reflection of how Jess is messed up kid who has never experienced love until he came to Stars Hollow he has never had someone care for him that much and it just shows that perhaps Rory wasn't mature enough then to try and deal with that but I think now in season 6/7 and onwards i think that he has fixed himself enough for Rory to be able to cope with the way his past has affected him. And I think that Rory was part of the fixing process for Jess, she really showed him that he needed to make a better life for him maybe he was so keen to improve himself just to impress Rory but i think that besides all that he definitly turned his life around.
It's just a shame that Rory isn't there to appreciate the new Jess.

i have to admit, i thought it was funny how in this episode, when dean sees jess made rory upset, he starts fighting him, and in the next episode, he tell rory that he's getting married. I know they were friends and all, it just seems like he missed being her bf a little then.

What an excellent point, soxgrrl33. You are so right, for someone who is trying to convince Rory that he has found happiness in his new relationship he sure is quick to jump into hers and make a complete mess. In fact, I think Dean was a huge factor in the break-up of Rory and Jess. While Jess ultimately was the reason for Dean and Rory to break-up, he had her for 2 years and she fell in love with someone else. Dean was causing trouble in their relationship from the start and they never had a real shot together without  everyone else getting in the way.
Dean should not have started a fight with Jess when he had no idea what had happened between he and Rory.

Im kind of impartial to this episode because i never really thought that dean nor jess was ever right for rory. For both of them, they seemed more interested in the competition and the rise they got from one another while battling it out. I was happy at the end, and even in the following episode because they were both out of her life.... or so it seemed...

I don't think either of them were right for her at that moment. I think Jess could've been right for her if he'd gotten himself together and people had actually given him a chance without all the judging. But, Jess still needed to "find himself" (how Dr Phil is that? lol) He had to go off and be something before he could be something for someone else.
Dean, in my opinion, was never right for Rory. He was never good for her and he was never going to be. When he married lindsay I think he showed firstly how silly and ridiculous he was and second the kind of life he was after. He wanted the Stars Hollow, work all day in your labourers job, getting your hands dirty and then at night coming home to the wife for a hot meal on the table, kind of life. There is nothing wrong with that scenario, it's just that Rory never fit into it. He may not have loved her because of his feelings for Rory bt Lindsay was perfect for him. She was his fit. Rory wasn't.
Jess was different again. He didn't really have a path at all. He was more of a free spirit. He could live in the world of a book and that would suit him just fine. Regardless of his teen angst and his rebellious nature, there was always a sense that one day Jess would shake off his problems and do something amazing with himself. Which he did.  I think Rory and Jess compliment each other well. He was more of a free spirit thinker and she was the down to earth thinker. Both of them with their heads firmly stuck in a book.

I dont think Jess and Dean fought to get a rise out of each other, they did it to win over Rory. They were both in love with her. The fight they had had nothing to do with each other. It was protection in Dean's eyes and self defence in Jess's. If anything I think both boys would be happy to see the back of the other one. I don't think they cared about the "rise" at all.

I totally agree I think that if Rory and Jess had just been going out a little longer they would have found a routine with each other which they nearly had found (e.g Happy Birthday Baby-22.8miles -classic!) but this episode just threw it right out of wack again. If they had had the chance they would have been perfect for each other which is why I think that now in season6 and 7 Jess and Rory are ready for each other. Jess has settled down a bit and Rory has become more adventurous now they are a perfect match!

I know this is a bit less of an analyzed/intilectual comment than the last few that you lot have posted...but i just have to say...

I LOVE DRUNK LANE IN THIS EPISODE!

I don't think it was competitaiton,all the way. *okay,im totaly obsessed with fanfictions,cause in my last post it showed it too,but oh well.* in a fanfic I read Jess was trying to explain why he was acting like he was with Dean. He said that he didn't hate dean,he envied him. He envied the way that he could talk to Rory without being judged,how he could kiss her anytime he wanted,and how that he could look at Rory without having to have a reason. I think that explains it for Jess. He fought and said mean things about dean b/c he didn't want to admit the fact that he wanted to be him;in some matters. For Dean...it was stupid for him. I mean, she moved on,and he said he did....but I don't believe him! lol. So I don't think it was competition i think it was envy and love from Jess and...well..jealousy and anger and stalkerishy love from Dean.

I think that it was more than envy from Jess. I think it was because everyone else thought Dean was right for Rory and not Jess so Jess felt like he could never live up to Dean's reputation.
I dunno how to explain it really.

I get what you mean,Imy. I mean, SH really showed the horrid side of itself there. What was Jess suppose to do? Everytime he tried,but didn't sucseed insomething they always got mad and compared him to Dean. When the fact was this. SH loved Dean and Rory. To them, Rory was their princess and Dean was as prince charmingly as they could get. Well, Jess was different. It was like throwing James Dean in a room with Prince Eric and getting mad when Ariel looked away from Prince Eric.*never watch The Little Mermaid with your sister five times in a row* It was like they we're setting disaster.(I love the song Kiss Me Kill me for them,OOC but still.)

I just don't get how people can compare someone they love to someone they hate.Basicly,In a nut shell, S.H hated different. Change. Adverntures. They are the cute little story book town,and Mr.Personality and his smoking ways, N.Y blood didn't fit.  He never got the light of day with them,and he knew it.

Talk about pressure.
