Why is this thread still here???

This is a fun thread which has generated a lively discussion among the members of likes and dislikes. We've knocked around such subjects as feminism and stereotyping, not to mention the size of Rory's forehead and Lorelai's legs.

(Well - not actually the size  of Lorelai's legs. Altho, come to think of it, I did make a remark about cottage cheese.)

Juan Carlos obviously put up the first post as a gag to tease his wife and dotter, and several of us are having fun with it.

I wish he'd come back and join the discussion. If he's who he says he is, he's bright and educated and perceptive, and I'd like to know what he doesn't  like about the show.

 Cool

what's wrong with Lorelai's legs and Rorys forhead? they are bothe gorgeous.... if there's something wrong with them then I am WAY off from physical perfection!!!

Absolutely nothing! Juan Carlos noted he thought Rory's forehead was large enough for European airplanes, and I disagreed and added that Lorelai's legs are perfect.

No fair snarking me for defending Rory and Lorelai!

Well, I'm personally enjoying the thread.  I mean, basically, the brunt of his posts have been "you people are little girls!  You watch Gilmore Girls!  You have cooties!"  I don't know, but something like that isn't important enough to get me mad.  But, it does let me exercize my writing skills.  And, if he's sitting there, laughing as my little hands type (my hands really are little) well more power to him.  The laughter of someone I've never seen doesn't hurt me, and meanwhile I'm having fun myself.

EVERYBODY CALM DOWN--this person is expressing an opinion about a TV show. not a religion, not god or goddess, a TV show.

I personally thought it was really sappy and stupid until about a year ago.
My nieces-pre-teen-kept telling me to watch it.
I am a writer and director.  At first I thought "ok, they talk fast, they eat a lot, coffee, etc.mom is young looking and sexy, daughter is -supposedly perfect, but in my opinion a smart-ass. Still-interesting."  THEN I NET-FLIXED 5 SEASONS.
AND I GOT OBSESSED-LOVE LUKE-(MY AGE I SUPPOSE) LOVE LOVE LOVE LORELAI , and all the characters of the little town. Writing was good until all of this season.
It's obvious that Amy p is burned out. She has nothing more to give-Lorelei?sorry sp- has lost her pazazz; I want her to be the tough cookie she was in the pilot. Now, NOBODY IS SAYING IS REALISTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I'm so into it I keep asking people to send me the last three episodes, and nobody responds.
Why is that? I'm not adoring enough?  Actually, I am.
I moved from Texas back to NYC, and need the last three episodes. Can anyone help?
To the poster who hates this show--well, ya got guts; it must irritate you in a way that is personal.  Hey, we all know small towns ARE NOT LIKE THIS - that's why I need a fantasy Stars Hollow so badly.

Distasteful as it is, I will now confess my own, inexcusable dopey obtuseness.  Whatever prompted me to broadcast my density over the ether is nothing I’m anxious to analyze; I would rather repress that urge and merely say that I am sorry.

As MikeinLA, Jinglesosborne, & Dani257 have proven, if superior intellects, decidedly more sophisticated than mine can actually enjoy “The Gilmore Girls”, then I cannot be so obstinate and prejudiced of opinion regarding a show I have barely ever watched.

As most if not all prejudice is borne out of ignorance, I am not proud to say I have found a new, comfy, ignorant loafer just my size.    This moment of mirthless introspection was the byproduct of a surreptitious, midnight marathon GG watching session courtesy of my daughter’s seasons 4 & 5 DVD collection.    I managed to watch half of season four without once nodding off out of boredom, a rare thing for me between 24:00 and 05:00 hrs.on a Saturday.

After the second episode, I actually found myself enjoying the show and its well crafted script and more than apt acting.    I had originally formed my very negative opinion of the GG from superficial and momentary glances of the same.  I was too quick to dismiss it as pure trash based on the lame musical snippets I heard, and my impression that it was a repository for D list actors and pathetic has-beens.  With these blinders on, I only saw what I wanted to see, a retarded cast of characters serving as an overwrought background and safety net for bad  scripting and ludicrous plot devices.  It seemed to my mind, to openly promote an anti male bias while diminishing the importance of  modesty  in women, especially teenage girls .  This may appear to be the case with season 6, not so much with prior seasons.   In short, I sit here corrected, and I am grateful to the above mentioned forum members, even Snowprincess for knocking a Dumbkopf out of unwarranted Dumbheit.  The Gilmore Girls, is far from  Dreck, and some of the gratuitous adult themed dialogue notwithstanding, is still more than acceptable television fare for all, even  the training bra set   Tschuess und Leb wohl Alles.  Juan Carlos

Glad to see you posting again, JC.

The fun doesn't have to stop, you know. There are dozens of threads dedicated to specific facets of the show. If you think Luke ist ein Dumbkopf, for instance, you can check out my Is Luke a REAL man? thread under Cast and Characters. I'd be particularly interested in your take on THAT subject. On it, one member even makes reference to Plato.

While we have no thread for the discussion of Rory's forehead, there are some which examine her character and preference in male companions.

It's fun here. Look around a little and see if you feel like joining in.

 Cool

P.S. Somebody unsnark Juan Carlos at least once. I don't have enough posts yet to do it but I would if I could.

ADDED LATER: There's a reading thread you might find interesting. Many of the members here are young, but some have sophisticated tastes and might appreciate your input. Myself, I've just written a book. The site doesn't approve of plugs or sales pitches, but I'd be glad to tell you about it if you send me a private msg or e-mail. It's a novel with a combination historical and supernatural setting. Just click on the little white envelope to the left of this box.

(If that doesn't work, click on my name and my profile box will appear and my e-mail address is there.)

It's also easy to play amateur psychologist here, too. You can jump on a thread for any of the characters and shrink his/her head. You need to accept the fact that you are shrinking the head of a fictional construct, not a real person, but the characters are well defined and fleshed out, and you can actually DO this.

Before you leave forever, wie sagt Mann auf Deutsch Lorelai ist ein sehr foxy Fräulein?

My suspicions are true!  I suspected JC was basing his opinions on Season 6 which, as we know, has not been the best of GG.  I'm personally a fan of Season 1, in its fresh and lovely state.  But 4 and 5 are great as well.  I think that seeing snippets of Season 6 would be a turn-off to watchers who have never seen GG before; in its current soapy state, it might be too much.

In my opinion, GG is best appreciated from day one.  Starting with the Pilot, and watching the shows consecutively, you can see how clever the show is, and how the characters have transformed.  Season 6 is a bit of an oddity, and certainly not one of my favourites, but I'm too addicted now, and must see it through, especially as I suspect the show will end after another season or two.

To be frank, I used to make fun of GG before I sat down and watched it.  The pitch (and song) can be a bit corny if you've never let GG fully envelop you.  Once you know the characters, it becomes familiar, like watching best friends in certain situations.

MikeinLA, we should chat sometime.  It's nice to see another novelist kicking about - and, like me, probably getting ideas for the next work.  I find the show fun because Richard and Emily are funny versions of someone I wrote about before.  Perhaps that's why I love the show so much - it speaks to me on a creative level too.

Ok, even though I don't get why this thread is here, I gave the mean guy a prettystick because he said he was sorry.  Grin That takes a lot. And I agree with all the suggestions to watch the show from the beginning... The first time I ever saw a GG episode I thought it was cheesy and dismissed it, but when I really sat down and LISTENED I was hooked. We all were- the writing and characters are as clever and charming as us all (more than me, for sure!)... Although I don't understand why ASP took the L&L storylines in the 'soapy' direction that she did, and then DR exacerbates an already messy sitation with the L&C arch and crash making season 7 quite rushed, I must say I still planned practically my whole day around making sure I was home and my kids were in bed by 8 so that I could be alone and settled to watch my favorite show. Even when it was cheesy/boring/trite/sloppy it was still the best show on television, and more worth MY precious time than any other crappy reality or game show... of course, everyone is entitled to disect the minutuae of the show because such media is up for critique, but that at least is my  Two Cents
