31  Gilmore Girls / Appreciation Threads / Re: Noddies (Luke Appreciation)- Cause He Likes Doing Stuff With Her on: November 09, 2005, 04:40:55 PM
It's a strategy...if ya sound like ya would do it without pay they won't give ya a good deal. He's playing them. Makin' the WB/ASP sweat a little.

I haven't gotten a chance to read through all the spoiler links on fanforum yet, but I hope what you're saying is right.  Scott just looked like he was ready for something else in the interview.  Whoever said it was right though, it was cool the way he was dancing on the set to J-Lo's music. I wouldn't have a problem shaking my booty for Scott. Wink
32  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: 6.08 - Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out on: November 09, 2005, 04:26:45 PM
I've heard people say this, but I don't see why.  What if he didn't think she was a good writer?  Now, there's no evidence that he does feel that way, but if he did, does that make him an bad boyfriend?
Remember this is only my opinion, but yes it does make him a bad boyfriend.  Out of all the things he said in response to what happened, he never addressed her actual writing prowess.  The whole purpose of having a man in your life is to share your ups and downs, your achievements and your failures - someone you can count on and turn to and someone who you can support in the same fashion.  It doesn't matter whether he thought she was a good writer or not.  He could have gotten her psyched up about all the possibilities for her future, he could have made it all about the revenge of proving someone wrong.  That's what men and women do.  They lift each other up and help each other make good choices for themselves by offering them the realm of possibilities.

But, I really want to know why he feels trapped.  I think he really does feel there are no options.  Exactly what is it about his life that makes him think he has no options?
The burden of carrying on a family legacy?  Who will look after the businesses that provides the income that allows his family to live the life they are accustomed to?  The possible loss of all his possessions and income?  I would imagine as a person of wealth, it is harder to turn your back on your family knowing that down the line you will be the one responsible for ensuring all your family stood for remains.  When you don't have the burden of such massive amounts of money you don't have to worry about people trying to hold someone you love hostage for it or a family member getting shot because someone who was so down on their luck got desperate and tried to steal their purse or jewelry.  There's also the home Logan grew up in and the people his family employs in all those businesses.  We know Logan still has a conscience - he sent a round of drinks to the folk singer.  All of the above things may be weighing heavily on his mind.  It's not enough to just have lots of money.  You have to know how to watch it and keep it.  In the end, he may see himself as the only one left to secure the family fortune.

Quote
I think he's usuing his partying as a way to avoid a certain kind of growing up, because he feels he has no choice to grow up any other way than his dad's way.  He came off here as someone who continues to play because he knows once he does decide to take that step, there's only one path.  Again, why does he feel that way?
Ask any new parent about the finality of parenthood.  Regardless of whether you are ready for it or not, you have a child you have to raise and mold into a happy, healthy adult capable of providing for themselves.  Regardless of what Logan's reasons are for accepting the fate his father has forced him into, the bottom line is he's afraid of what and who he will become as a result.  Perhaps he's afraid of failing, perhaps he's afraid he'll never be able to be spontaneous again.  Whatever the problem is, he's not sharing it with Rory.  Whether it's because Rory hasn't been interested enough to ask about how he feels about taking this big step (which I haven't really seen her do) or because he doesn't want to share it (after he told her they had to share such things when his father told her she didn't have it), there it is.  We may never find out why Logan feels that way.  That's completely up to Amy.

I know Emmy's are supposed to be for a body of work, but do the voters actually see an entire body of work, or do they only see the episode that the shows submit to them?
This is from an article from E! Online:  "Each category works a little differently. With Best Comedy and Best Drama, for example, nominees submit eight episodes. (Four panels, comprised of anywhere from 6 to 75 people, view two episodes each and vote.)"  So it appears that the final decision is made by several different people viewing different episodes so they have a sample of a whole season's work.

33  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: Lor's CellPhone!! on: November 09, 2005, 02:23:29 PM
**** what kind of cell phone both of the gilmore girls have?

The cell phone information was merged into the fashion thread, but I see there are more single threads about Lorelai's cell phone.  Those discussions are under the General Discussion section.

Here's a weird thing that's been happening of late...

When I get notices in my e-mails that there's a new response to a topic I'm watching, I'll click on the link and it will say " The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."  These are topics I go to every day.  I tried to log out and log back in, but it didn't change it.

Is there a chance that when topics get merged into main threads that the link that's being sent to you in your e-mail to let you know there are new responses is from the old topic it was merged from?  I can access all these threads by going there directly, it just seems to be the provided links in e-mail that are causing the problems.

"when everything is happy and delightful and ducky, things get a little dull"

i don't agree. i'm really not into all this drama stuff, i think this show is great without it. it has great dialogues and great characters, and i like luke and lorelai being together, no drama needed. i guess we should have faith in them, they never disappointed us before, so we shall see.

I whole-heartedly agree about not needing the soap, but it's easier on Amy to create controversy than have to think up compelling storylines.  I guess it fleshes out Scott's character more as well to see how he, how their relationship holds up through all this.  I'm just going to be very disappointed if Lorelai continues to flirt with Christopher.  Have some loyalty woman!
36  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: 6.08 - Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out on: November 09, 2005, 01:42:14 PM
I agree with several people who said this was one of the best episodes of the season.  From an all-around perspective (as far as message), I think it's been the best of the series.  I liked it because of what it said.  I liked it because it reminded me of the very reason I started watching this show...the things you learn when you have to raise a child by yourself.

Every piece of this episode said something positive about the positions we are stuck in through life and the choices we make, whether we are aware our lives have changed to reflect those choices or not.  The only "fluff" in this episode was the going on and on about the paint.  Lorelai decorated an entire inn.  I have a problem buying that she couldn't decide what color she wanted to paint her house.

My favorite observations:

  • Loved the fact that Luke decided to sponsor the team and went all out for them.  Loved the fact that he became painfully aware of how competitive women are these days and that YES, it is completely different than the way things were when he grew up.  (Maybe I appreciate it more in a retrospective way because I'm Luke's age. Wink )  I thought it was really funny that Amy used a soccer team with Scott's new movie "Her Best Move" in post-production.  I wonder if there's a scene in it where he complains about the uniforms or sponsorship or something.

[li]About Logan - I was all for Rory and Logan getting together, but like every REAL relationship out there the cracks are starting to show in Logan's armor.  The one thing Logan did not do was support Rory by saying she was a GOOD writer when his father told her she "didn't have it."  He was willing to go get in his face, but wasn't supportive (which in its own way is discriminatory).  He should have told Rory she could overcome anything.  Now that his father has him under his thumb, we see the real Logan.  Like Christopher (and many men who AREN'T rich), he tries to shy away from  a life he doesn't have enough balls to direct himself through denial and alcohol.  Money can make you happy, but it can't make you a man.  Only internal fortitude can do that.  I liked the way Amy wrote the parallels between Logan not having the courage to determine how he will relate to his new life and Rory standing up to Emily and taking her life back.  These type of statements are what made me love "Gilmore Girls" in the first place.  [/li]

[li]About Jess/Milo - I'm really happy with not only the way Amy wrote him, but the way Milo portrayed the more mature Jess.  Not a big Milo fan, because most of the roles I've seen him in have been the same thing...punk rebellious kid.  Needless to say, I was really amazed at the way he presented himself in this episode.  After this work I can appreciate him as a legitimate actor doing more versatile roles and I actually look forward to seeing what else he can do.  The big question is was Milo that way because he himself has matured or because Amy gave him a chance to present a different archetype to the screen?  Whatever the reason, I can see why Milo opted to take the role again and I hope he'll consider doing a few more episodes if only to see what else he can bring to the table.

[/li]

[li]About Lorelai/Lauren - Again, Lauren gets more chances to prove she's Emmy worthy.  She and Scott must have come to an understanding about their new on-screen relationship, because while she was incredible last year in the juicy scenes, her reluctance in some of the physical scenes (completely from a body language point of view) kept her out of serious consideration (my opinion only).  Remember, Emmy's are for an entire year's worth of work, not just the intense episodes.  She's been very believable all the way through so far this season where it's counted and as always with great comedy timing.  I REALLY appreciate the fact that Amy didn't go to the same well with the sad scene, instead this time using Paul Anka to express emotion.  It may only be me, but after having lost two of my own kitties over the span of the last two years over genetic diseases I understood her sadness.  Sure, the parallel regarding Rory was there, but I wasn't thinking about it when she was talking about how helpless she felt that she couldn't do anything for her sick animal.  I was honestly expecting Rory to pop in the room any minute and the dog to jump up and wag it's tail like nothing was wrong.  I do appreciate that the dog is reflecting Lorelai's sorrow over not having Rory in her life.  I know the Kitten gets really sad when my son leaves for college (even though she shies away from him for a week after he's come back home).[/li]
[/list]
He said that to Rory after Logan had acted like a jerk in the bar/restaurant. And frankly, Logan acted like a jerk right when they first met, butting his way in to their evening - Rory even tried to brush his arm off her shoulder when he made a point of putting it there when they were walking to the car. I don't recall seeing anything in the episode that made it obvious that Jess was against Logan merely because he is rich?
I felt Logan acted that way because he has completely lost control of his life and losing Rory's loyalty was the last straw.  After having seen the scene in it's entirety, I don't think as badly of Logan as I did from the caps of him yelling at her.  Logan is terrified of what's happening to him and he's fighting it tooth and nail.  The sad thing about their argument in the bar is it almost appears that Logan had no intention of taking Rory with him past that "step into manhood" he's being forced in to.  I don't pity him though.  The difference between the classes is this:  This rich and privileged can always choose to turn away from their lives.  Even without money, they would STILL be in control of their own happiness.  Those with lesser financial options DO have the opportunity to try for a better life, but I've seen time and time again the broken promises and unanswered prayers being all that remains at the end of a life of trying.

Each of us has to choose what is acceptable to have in our lives.  What I loved about this episode was the vast palette Amy used to demonstrate that with.

i just hope luke and lorelai stay together and that scott will sign the contract for the next season.

I mentioned this in the Noddies thread, but you should really watch Scott's interview on KTLA from September 27th of this year.  He really doesn't sound all that attached to Season 7 and even mentioned that when they were renegotiating Season 6, they never even discussed Season 7.  Hmmm...  Scott's getting legitimate movies now and he IS a great actor.  It's funny he also clearly stated that he thinks of Lauren as a "sister," which is funny because she made such a big deal about that whole brother/sister thing last year.

I'm not getting overly attached to him being in Season 7 just in case...

KTLA interview
38  Gilmore Girls / Appreciation Threads / Re: Noddies (Luke Appreciation)- Cause He Likes Doing Stuff With Her on: November 07, 2005, 11:26:00 PM
I know what you mean, but nowadays I draw the line at 30. But when I was 16 I had a crush on a 33 year old.

Lucky me...I don't have to draw a line.  I'm only a year younger than he is. Grin

Not meaning to imply anything here, but how many people D/L and saw the Scott Patterson interview at the end of September for KTLA?  He REALLY doesn't sound like he's all that interested in being in the cast next year, not to mention the fact that he said they didn't even discuss Season 7 with him during his Season 6 negotiations last year.

BTW, he was HOT in that interview...blurry as it was.  I thought it was funny the way he was going on about Jennifer Lopez and says he uses a special razor to keep that 5:00 shadow at just the perfect length.

Rory is pleasantly surprised when her old flame Jess (guest star Milo Ventimiglia) appears at her grandparents' house and reveals an amazing development in his life.

He got a GED and he's going to college?  He's a father?  He's getting married?  He hit the lotto?  Hmmmm...

In reference to Chris:  Bam Censor Wall Lightning Pow Gift  What's the gift for, you wonder.  It contains a bomb.  Tick tick...tick tick...

ROTFL!!!

I'm a little suspect about the photos of Logan.  Yes, I believe he can get a temper and treat people bad.  Yes, I would suspect him of acting like a little spoiled rich kid, but like I've said before Rory has a bad habit of flirting with guys when she's already committed to someone.  Maybe Logan's jealousy is rearing it's ugly head.  There's nothing worse than a man who thinks his money gives him the right to control your life (although someone DOES need to point out to Rory it's in bad taste to flirt with other guys when you're with someone else).  I haven't seen Rory learn to control herself in regards to thinking all men are hers for the taking, even if she is already taken herself.

If Jess has come down to earth and grown up (what usually happens when you're responsible for paying your own bills), I wouldn't mind seeing him come back for Rory.  But before Rory gets involved again, I think she needs to get hit with a "loyalty" clue bat.

In this thread you can post all the emoticons you love, use a lot…or just want to show someone. This can also be the place to find great emoticons to use yourself if you don’t have emoticons yet and have no idea where to get them from.

I used to get mine at smileycentral.com, but it doesn't look like you can use them unless you download a program now.  I saved some to my hard drive from there, but I don't know if I want to install software on my PC just to have access to them.  Roll Eyes

Ellen: Lauren you’ve been spotted makin’ out with Milo. So did you guys swap? I didn’t even know him and Alexis broke up.
Lauren: Uhhh.
Alexis (thinking): Prepair for the bitch-slapping of your life.

ROTFL!!!  Whory Rory...heck, she doesn't have anything on Lauren. Wink
43  Gilmore Girls / Spoilers / Re: Discussion of Spoilers on: November 04, 2005, 09:36:55 AM
So to look at this from a more possitive view:
LL stay together. They work threw Anna/April only to realise that she ISN'T his daughter. Luke gets over his problems with Chris. So LL get married in spring. And next season Chris comes to town cause Luke doesn't want Lorelai to cut Chris out of her life anymore...cause he wouldn't want Lorelai to tell him to cut Anna out of his life if she was the mother of his child...cause he is just a person from her past..NOTHING MORE.

You remember Amy is at the helm of this thing, right?    Sad   Amy, the women who will do anything for ratings?  The women who said she wrote Luke and Lorelai together because they just meandered that way and the audience loved them together?  The woman who is so anal retentive about the lines being read perfectly that she won't let the actors and actresses deviate one iota?  If her intention in the beginning was to have Lorelai finally marry Christopher so they could be a real family, I wouldn't doubt she'd screw it all up at the show's end.

Even if that's not the case, even if Luke and Lorelai do get married at the LAST minutes of the series (so she can revisit the sigh of relief everyone had when Luke and Lorelai got back together last season), do we really want to be dragged through that?  I guess it depends on what type of masochist a person is.  Maybe Amy is tired of doing the show and thinks if she wrecks it, she won't have to do another season past 7.  Maybe she knows Lauren and Alexis are over it and is setting up the end (regardless of whether Scott signs his contract or not).

The only thing that would make sense to me is if Rory feels too weird to live with Luke and Lorelai in the house she grew up in so she moves in with her father.  That way, they'd need David Sutcliffe around to show up here and there (maybe to inspire Rory to be great again?).  Maybe if Logan let's Rory down hard?  I don't think Rory has really been around enough to feel comfortable with Luke in her domain.  She certainly isn't going to feel good about living with her grandparents any more and since the death of Christopher's father, maybe  he hopes his mother will get a chance to know and love Rory like she couldn't when her husband was still alive.

Yeah, I'm in complete denial...  I haven't hated a writer this much since Aaron Sorkin left The West Wing.

I decided to be helpful and use a shrunken version because it's actually a wallpaper. Click on any of them and it'll take you to the bigger version on the Imageshack site.

Nice work!  It really is interesting to see Alexis mature through pictures, especially considering she's been doing it while on a TV show.  I hope they get some more positive Rory into her character to match the wisdom and experience she's gained over the years that shows up in her pictures now.

Is his dad the guy from the Longest Yard who would always have MacDonalds burgers to give away, if so then I'm definetly going to watch!

I don't know that I've ever seen that movie, but yes Terry Crews was in it.  He mentions something about it on the UPN web site for the show.
