I don't think it is a writing flaw at all.    People change their minds about things all of the time.   It is certainly reasonable that she would have changed her mind after the choices were concrete.   In the past, the college choice was abstract, she was not accepted to Harvard, Yale or any school.   I am not convinced that she would do a pro/con list ahead of time, when it was all speculation.    Rory (as a humble person) will likely not just have assumed that she would be accepted to colleges with such tough competition.

And I think this is such a great episode (top 5 of the series!).  There are so many funny scenes.

What a great episode.   I thought it was a great way to end to a great series.   I cried my eyes out as well.    When Rory was speaking to Lorelai at the end.   When she was at the dinner table for the last time talking about her new job.    The last interaction with Rory and her grandparents.   All were a great send-off.    I will miss this show so much and was very disappointed when there was no shortened season, but I have to admit, I feel this was a great way to end this amazing show

YKYOW at 28 you find yourself crying like a baby at you desk in work because you read that a TV show is being canceled!!!!!! I have never been this upset.....I started watching Gilmore Girls from season 2, and thanks to DVD's and the Family Channel, i think i have seen every episode 10 times!!!! I love this show for so many reasons. I got my mom into watching it as well, becasue so often the show reminds me of her and I. i have never before seen a town in a show, that made me wish i lived there!!!! The characters are so amazing, that i actually get mad at them, and sad when things happen to them, and i feel proud when things come through for them!!! What other show could you say this about???

Paris:  Doyle, I think you should work and I will stay home with the kids

Paris was great in that last episode.     It really was classic Paris.   She showed all of her sides:

Crazy/Neurotic -- when she was flipping out when folks were not as excited as she thought they should be about UPenn and when she broke up with Doyle.
Self Centered -- when she cavalierly made that comment to Rory about "Talk to me when you don't get the fellowship and have to choose between 6 different papers
Sweet -- When she was talking about Rory being such a good friend throughout the year

This is definitely in my top 10 episodes.   I just watched it again recentlly.   Here are a few of my favorites:
