1  Episode Discussion / A Year in the Life / Re: 1.04 - Fall on: November 29, 2016, 03:47:55 pm
I thought it was interesting that the part of Emily that enjoyed power and propriety "died with Richard." It sort of explains why, after everything they'd been through, all it took was one drunken rant to put her and Lorelai back at square one. Emily majored in History at Brown, and is clearly still passionate about historical accuracy as she retires to curate the whaling museum. Could it be that all her social posturing and political ambition was part and parcel with her devotion to her husband? Her relationship with Richard's mother suggested that she struggled to fit in with the Gilmores, and she occasionally showed flashes of temper and humor that seemed completely at odds with the Victorian propriety she aspired to as a Gilmore.
Maybe, just maybe, the severe social standards that she maintained (that made Lorelai's rebellion and defection so hard to cope with) was more for Richard than it was for her. Maybe she would gladly have thrown it all away to embrace her daughter if it hadn't meant betraying Richard's values as well. Then he dies. She wakes up not giving a damn about the things that drove a wedge between her and Lorelai in the first place, and, in her secret heart, blames Richard for the distance between them.
Then, right in the middle of this profound anger and doubt, when she needed some confirmation that she hadn't wasted her life and destroyed her family for the sake of "the Gilmore Way," Lorelai relates an anecdote that makes it sound like he didn't really love her. It should have been funny, but there was too much pressure on the moment that Lorelai couldn't have possibly known about. And Lorelai can't apologize because she doesn't understand what she is apologizing for.
So they thrash about in their separate grief until Emily finds a life to live for herself and Lorelai tells her that in spite of her resentments, she always felt her father's love for her. And so they both come to terms with the fact that, while knowing Richard Gilmore wasn't always easy for either one of them, neither could imagine a life without him.

I dunno, if that's the attention span Rory has for her bfs, it would explain a lot! I kind of liked Paul, he reminded me of what's his name, Alex. And he seemed to have a lot of characteristics that her previous boyfriends lacked. I mean, clearly he's not the jealous type like Dean. And he's extremely considerate of her family and friends the way Jess wasn't. Plus long distance seems to be just fine with him. Vote for Paul, he's got enough long-term memory for the both of them!

Wow, maybe I should check out the facebook page. Got a link?

I binge watch the entire series once or twice a year whenever I have time. I know it's nuts but I've never let go. I hear all the new fans are on twitter or something, but I'm kinda set in my ways, I never post anywhere but here.
5  Gilmore Girls / Show and Cast Member News / Re: Gilmore Girls Limited-Series Revival Set at Netflix - 10.19.15 on: January 15, 2016, 09:22:31 am
I wonder what it will be about. I mean, it sounds like they intend to cover a season long arc in 6 hours, and from ASP's commentary I gather she wants to undo some of Season 7 as we know it. Last I heard, she still hadn't watched it, though I guess she'll have to now!

edit to avoid double post:
Does anyone remember what we did when we thought it was a drill? I remember the revisiting. I also remember following what the cast was doing the year after the cancellation. I watched every episode of Aliens in America and the Travelling Pants movies. I watched Samantha Who? and Heroes. I only watched the Saw movies cause Scott Patterson was the first guy to beat Saw guy's death trap. I took a crack at Goodwife, but, well, it's Goodwife. Ditto Supernatural. And I was totally stoked when I heard LG was a producer at NBC, and I read Someday Maybe in a day, then binged all of Parenthood. I took in a few spinoff shows like Ugly Betty and followed McCarthy's big screen career. I even remember that first year when I got immersed in the Obama/McCain debates to fill the void.

A lot has happened since our first "drill," and I remember those moments when I was positive it was over and everyone had gotten on with their lives and forgotten. Well, I guess I haven't, and I can't wait to see the new ones and post everything I think about them right here. Who's with me?

Omg, I just watched the repub debate and I thought that last post was terror related. Then I thought it might just be an Arab gg looking for a place to hang. Wrong on both counts, it's spam for an online casino. Oy vey.

My favorite was the one where Emily convinced Lorelai that she'd had dinner with a Nazi in episode 1.05.

How about a category for most determined to keep posting even after everyone had given up and drifted apart?

Yeah, you know I never have found anything like it. Doesn't seem to be any really involved discussion about television anymore.
14  Gilmore Girls / Relationship Threads / Re: Java Junkies (Lorelai and Luke) - We all love the chick beer! on: April 11, 2015, 11:51:03 pm
I'm a Java Junkie! Though, if I'm honest, I think we lost a lotta members in season seven when she married someone else. You'll have to pardon my oldness, but how do I go about mentioning this on that "tumblr" thing I've heard about?
15  GilmoreGirls.org / Announcements / Re: Heidi's Soapbox: News, Opinions, and Things You Never Wanted to Know on: April 09, 2015, 06:19:25 pm
Define involved! I hardly ever post anymore, I started to feel silly star posting my regular threads. But I'm still here, and I still binge watch the show when I have time. I also go back and reread the boards a lot when I'm writing and trying to remember that awesome way I put that pithy observation I made ten years ago. I nearly had a cow when I couldn't find the org this week, what happened with that?

Long live it, long love it, and please warn me if it's going to disappear again!
