1  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.22 - Bon Voyage on: May 16, 2007, 08:29:32 AM
The episode was disappointing.  First off, it needed at least two hours: the whole thing felt rushed.  They were so busy tying up loose ends that there was no feeling to the show, I found.  It was all so anti-climatic!

However, I did love Luke's final line.  It was so Luke.  But I wanted to see the necklace scene!  The effort he put into the party was fantastic.

Where the hell was Paul Anka?  And Chris?

The series deserved a better send off than what it received.  For a show that has been building up many plot lines in 7 years, a one hour show was insufficient for wrapping up the series.  An 8-part season would've been much better, and I think the show deserved a better decline.
2  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.09 - Knit, People, Knit! on: November 29, 2006, 06:11:31 AM
Loved this episode.  It was funny and heartwarming.  The Knit-a-Thon was totally Stars Hollow and I'm glad we finally got to see that the townspeople haven't been wiped out by the plague.

Though I hate the marriage thing - if the April plot wasn't a shark-jumping moment, the marriage certainly is - but Luke's character development has been extraordinary.  Can't wait until he and Lorelai get back together again.  Because we know Chris's days are numbered in Stars Hollow.  He's a nice guy, but he just isn't Luke. Hearts
3  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.08 - Introducing Lorelai Planetarium on: November 22, 2006, 06:20:52 AM
I keep thinking this show has become very soap operish in the span of two seasons - and this is confirmed by yet another show that relies on plot twists like an emergency surgery to get Luke and Lorelai together.  Please.  Couldn't they have tried a bit harder?

While I thought the plot of the season did become a little developed in this episode, I miss the diversions and other characters we have come to love.  It's as though the CW is trying to save money by not paying the other actors to speak during the show.  I'm beginning to forget what many of them look like.  Each show, we used to see a variety of people like Sookie, Michel, the Gilmores, Kirk, Mrs. Kim, Paul Anka, Babette, Mrs. Patty.

Now the focus is just on romance.  It's become quite dull, and the show just doesn't have the fun and panache that it used to.  I'm not blaming it on Dave, because last season wasn't so hot.

But if I started watching Gilmore Girls this season for the first time ever, I would change channels and never come back.  It's lost that "something" that used to make me enjoy my Tuesdays.  If I wanted tortured romance, I'd start tuning in to the soaps in the afternoon.
4  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.07 - French Twist on: November 15, 2006, 07:55:25 AM
This episode was really jumpy, cutting back and forth without any real storyline development.  All of a sudden, we have Lane and Zack preparing for TWINS?  Blech - we all know the twins aren't supposed to come to these two, right?

I don't get the whole Chris and Lorelai thing.  Lor has spent her entire life trying to make it on her own, away from her parents' ostentatious wealth.  Now Chris has more money than Bill Gates, and Lorelai is revelling in the opening up of Parisian restaurants?  Seems very unlike her, but I guess money talks, even if it doesn't really say much of substance.

Love Luke's development though - perhaps this whole thing is going somewhere.  Each week I love Luke more and more, and hopefully, if and when Lorelai finally realizes she has erred, their reuniting will be all the more sweet!

Poor Rory!  I know exactly how she feels, and I can't wait to see what she does next.  Even with the money available to her (from her grandparents, her father, Logan) she is uncertain as to what to do with her future.  Here's to hoping she does it her way instead of running to moneybags Logan.

As much as I have hated this season and last, the show is still, by far, my favourite, and I'll stay with it to the end.  After all, such a great show couldn't stay perfect forever.
5  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.06 - Go, Bulldogs! on: November 07, 2006, 05:52:43 PM
Tonight's show didn't stink like the previous episode.  While I didn't laugh out loud too many times, this episode felt more like the GG of old.  Luke's disasterous date reminded me a lot of the dating hazards (e.g. Lorelai's Rune) and hey, we did get to see Scott without his shirt Smiley

Though I still find the Lorelai and Chris relationship mostly boring, I enjoyed Lorelai's revitalized dialogue, combined with a few references, and some lovely manoeuvreing of her mother's interfering ways!

Here's to hoping that Luke gets back to Lorelai some time down the road, and this is nothing more than a glitch in the road.  And here's to hoping that the episodes get better and funnier.
6  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.05 - The Great Stink on: October 24, 2006, 07:10:25 PM
Ironically, this show was named "The Great Stink" which aptly describes my impression of this episode.  I've not hated all of the episodes of this season, but this one was really dull, despite the pickle show.  I'm not sure why I wanted to fall asleep during this show, but I've been sifting through and trying to find reasons:

Chris and Lorelai make a dull couple.  I like Chris, but their storylines - the movie on the barn, the schoolyard scene - feel dull.

Logan and Rory are beginning to make a dull couple, partially because most of their conversations have to happen by text messaging or phone.  Yawn.

We haven't seen enough of the supporting cast - Paris, Lane, Mrs. Kim, Jackson and Sookie, Babette and Mory.  These are the people who make the show a varied celebration of small-town life.  I loved the injection of Kirk into the scene where he opens a coffee shop opposite Luke's.  More of this please!

Not enough funny references.  This episode seemingly had none, though I'm sure some were buried in the droning.  Even the dialogue wasn't chock full of the wit and language that made it so good in previous episodes.

Not enough kitsch.  Yes, there were the pickles.  But it seemingly had little to do with the plot.  Before, the kitsch was fabulous - Cinnamon's Wake or the Basket scene in which the men buy the women's baskets then picnic with them.  The dearth of unusual things really makes the show dull, because if I want pure drama, there's plenty of other shows on television in which women get jealous, babies appear out of nothing, and relationships never go quite right.

In summary, I'm sure not all of this is Dave's fault.  After all, this episode wasn't even written by him.  However, if scripts that don't play with the things that made GG so wonderful "back in the day" don't soon become the norm, I think this season is going to head to the scrapyard.  I'm holding out hope that next week will be better and not so snore-inducing.
7  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.02 - That's What You Get, Folks, for Makin' Whoopee on: October 04, 2006, 06:34:25 AM
What a great episode!  I laughed and almost cried.  It was so crammed full of amazing stuff!  Perhaps the best part was Kirk's imitation of Luke, down to the flannel shirt and backwards hat.  Timely comic relief, I found.  Though I hated that Luke acted like the proverbial tough man in punching Christopher, he did what I thought should be done, even if it was rather brutal and I don't condone violence!  Perhaps the best part of this season is that we haven't seen Anna and April, though TJ is a bit too annoying to have screen time.  Overall, this show makes me excited to see the rest of the season.
8  Episode Discussion / Season 7 / Re: 7.01 - The Long Morrow on: September 27, 2006, 04:24:10 PM
Well, this ep wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst of the GG seasons.  I mean, Amy's written a few clunkers in her day, and while this episode did feel a bit off, it shows signs of potential.  I'm sure Dave will have the hang of it once a few shows go by - besides, last season, as far as I'm concerned, was a bit of a wash compared to early GG.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't laugh during this show.  It just didn't seem really amusing, especially because of the whole Luke and Lorelai bit.  The serious tone of the show, as it now stands, is quite disappointing, and it's hard to laugh at potentially funny bits when there's so much pain within the main character.

However, I do approve of Lorelai telling Luke she spent the night with Christopher.  At least we don't have to wait for that cat to come out of the bag!  I only hope that as a few more episodes go by, things improve to the point that I get my feel-good laughter as I always used to.
9  Gilmore Girls / Spoilers / Re: Discussion of Spoilers on: May 16, 2006, 04:16:08 AM
I keep considering if I want to go the spree route, but then, this season, I would've been devestated by the season finale.  This way, I could prepare myself, and was left thinking, Meh, so what?  Crappy end to a crappy season.  Now Grey's Anatomy, last night (which I had no spoilers to prepare me for) left me crying and now this morning I'm a bit puffy.  The moral of this story?  Spoilers keep the eyes from getting too puffy!

Besides, I've never sneaked peeks at Christmas presents before, so I'll allow myself to peek at spoilers.
10  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: The Finale--Interesting Blog Posting on: May 11, 2006, 06:18:53 PM
An articulate way of saying this season and finale sucked.  I couldn't agree more, but I hope that the Palladinos have left enough charm with the crew to keep the show going for another year.
11  Gilmore Girls / Appreciation Threads / Re: Noddies (Luke Appreciation)- Cause He Likes Doing Stuff With Her on: May 11, 2006, 06:35:08 AM
Oh Luke, where art thou?  Please come back, post-haste and rant.
12  Gilmore Girls / Spoilers / Re: Discussion of Spoilers on: May 11, 2006, 06:33:29 AM
Props to you, White Onyx, for making me laugh with the "lying ho" bit and the good friends always spooning naked bit.  Sad, but true.  I'm not sure how they work this one out.  My only hope is that even if she is a lying ho, Luke might forgive her.  After all, he's a lying Warren Beatty, and didn't tell Lorelai about April.

If L and L don't get back together, I'll probably call it quits for this show.  At least I won't watch it as religiously.  It reminds me of Ally McBeal, one of my favourite shows.  Once Billy died (the love interest of Ally even though he was married) the show died quickly thereafter.  Methinks the same for GG if us Java Junkies aren't sated.

This isn't a spoiler, but I'm hoping that we see no random lovechilds in the next season, no hasty weddings (Lane and the dude), and no more shark-jumping!  Unless there really is a shark and some waterskies.
13  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: 6.22 - Partings/Season Finale on: May 11, 2006, 06:22:57 AM
I agree.  7.0 doesn't have the appeal of a new season.  We were suckerpunched; I would've at least liked to have the last image of the show being Lorelai closing the door to Chris's apartment so that we could've been kept guessing all summer.  No guesswork now, baby.  What the heck were they ALL thinking?  This is the best guesswork that arises out of the whole affair, pardon the pun.

As far as the L/L relationship goes, I think new writers can salvage it.  However, it's going to take a lot of growth on the part of both L and L.  This trainwreck of a season might be fixable, I tell myself (the only reason why I'll watch next season) and here's why.

I'm no fan of cheating or random play among adults, but here is a case where, if Luke thinks about his past, he can come to grips with Lorelai's infidelity (if that's what it even is).  Remember the marriage to Nicole?  Luke clearly loved Lorelai at this point (hence the dream she came to his diner and told him not to get married on his cruise) yet he still went off with another woman and got married.  He started dating Nicole in the first place because Jess make fun of him for waiting around for Lorelai.  In essence, this is little different, except that Chris and Lorelai have a lot more history (and a child) together.  If Luke is truly all in, he'll grow up and come to grips with this if Lorelai is still willing to work things out.  Those puppy-dog eyes tell me she's still all in too, despite the Chris thing.

As terrible as this plot development is, L and L could still make it work if they both grow up and listen to each other instead of ranting, sulking, etc.  L and L have been making eyes at each other for years, and dating other people, and this just happens to be another one of those blips.

We'll see if the writers make this one work out, or turn them both into bitter people.  Lorelai becomes Emily, and Luke rants even more.  Hmm.

Oh yes, and Lorelai still wears the ring, doesn't she?  There was no symbolic, taking-off of the ring.  Maybe it is cheating ...
14  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: 6.22 - Partings/Season Finale on: May 10, 2006, 07:11:19 PM
As one who has been in love with Lorelai for six seasons, I'm more proud of her than ever. She's going to jump up out of Christopher's bed, get dressed, give him a kiss, and prance out the door, head high. She'll get on with her life. She will NOT hook up permanently with Christopher.

There'll be more feuds with Emily and moments with Rory, who will also get on with life. Lorelai will make more jokes about Republicans (like the weapons of mass destruction and Clarence Thomas cracks), scritch Paul Anka, and attend town meetings. She isn't going to be quite as bubbly for awhile, but she's plucky and will go on. She is who she is.

If she encounters Luke, she won't be nasty or cold to him. If he even suggests they get together, she will refuse. If he grovels or begs, she'll tell him to grow a pair and get on with HIS life, too. She'll remind him of the old saying:

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on ME.

If the new producers would just hire Jingles Osbourne, Dani, and me as their writers, we'd have the show shaped up in no time. For one thing, we'll have Lorelai finally meet a REAL man!

 Cool

Ha ha, I would entirely take on such a role of writer.  Stick for you, for giving me the vote of confidence.  Alas, I would have to say I would keep Luke as her main love, but he would have to shape up or ship out.

This episode, I didn't like how Luke was promoted as her only true love.  Wrong!  Chris has been her love for a long time, and while I think her growth as a woman would be hampered by going back to a love that didn't work out, I think Luke has to change.  Maybe buy a few new clothes, become less addled by the feminine mystique.

Didn't like the psychologist/analyist, whatever she was.  Rather than letting Lorelai truly express herself, she fed answers to her and told her what to do.  She didn't really help out that much, I thought.  In fact, she made the situation worse.  I think Lorelai didn't give Luke a chance, much like the night she blasted him for Jess's accident.  It was borderline psychotic.

I really didn't like Lorelai in this episode, maybe because she was given such crappy lines - love of my life, yada yada.  I think the Luke-as-love-of-my-life motif has been hinted, subtly, throughout the series (here I dispute you, Dani257).  Lots of kid references, marriage references, etc.  But this episode bore the sentimental hallmarks of, well, a Hallmark film.  If this was the only episode I ever watched of GG, I probably would never watch another.  Because I've seen so many fabulous ones, I'll keep watching, chasing that dragon, hoping to find a good episode once more.
15  Episode Discussion / Season 6 / Re: Luke and Lorelei deserved better than Amy and Dan on: May 10, 2006, 07:04:25 AM
Props to you for the Gremlin joke.   Cheesy

I'm sure this thread will be moved to a more appropriate thread, since it seems more like an episode discussion or something, but I agree with you.  Full-heartedly!

Nothing felt authetic in this big of steaming something.  Well, that's too much of an exaggeration, but I did feel as though Lorelai and Luke and even Emily were being manipulated by some giant puppetmaster with an agenda of her (his) own that was totally at odds with everything that has happened in the past.

No specials on the DVD feature?  How can you make features for a pile of steaming poopy?  Okay, now I'm being bitter, but you get my drift.  Perhaps everyone knows that Season 6 isn't going to fly off the shelves.
