Title: Ask Ausiello: Gilmore Girls Reunion Movie - 05.23.07
Post by: Heidi on May 22, 2007, 10:48:32 pm
From the May 23rd, 2007 edition of TV Guide's Ask Ausiello ...

Question: So, what gives? There is no way you could still be at Fox's upfront party. Did you track down AS-P, and, if so, what were the final four words she had in mind for Gilmore Girls?— Katrina

Ausiello: OK, here's the deal: Yes, I tracked her down, but, no, she did not cough up those elusive four words. But wait — there's more. And it's good. No, amazing. No, un-frakkin'-believable. Amazing, even. Wait, did I say that already? Well, it's true. Because just as I was about to brand her a big ol' promise-breaker right there in front of all those industry types, Amy explained why she couldn't divulge her long-ago-planned Gilmore ending. (Gilmore fanatics: This is the time in Sprockets when you either lean on a heavy object or just sit down.) In the next year or two, she hopes to make — wait for it — a two-hour Gilmore Girls TV-movie that ties up all those loose threads! I nearly fell over when she said it — especially given what she told me back in December. (BTW, lest you think Amy was pulling my leg, her partner in life and in showbiz, Dan Palladino, confirmed that a GG reunion pic is something they're interested in pursuing.) And I wasn't the only one floored by this development. "She said what?" gasped Scott Patterson after I relayed the information to him over the phone. "I didn't think she would be interested in doing something like that. But if she says she is, I would seriously consider it." Alexis Bledel was equally stunned. "A Gilmore Girls reunion?" she said with a laugh. "That's certainly not something I had thought of doing. That's really funny, I have no idea how I would feel in a few years. I don't know, I'm sure the script Amy would write would be great, but I guess I'd have to read it and see how I felt at the time." Last but not least, Lauren Graham e-mailed me late last night to say, "Could be a fun idea if everyone wanted to do it. I would do it just to get the four final words out of Amy. They torture me." Stand by for a comment from Warner Bros. big cheese Peter Roth. In the meantime, head over to the Ask Ausiello Discussion Thread and start brainstorming campaign slogans!

Interesting, two weeks ago I kept on asking: "What was the CW thinking?!" :o now I'm asking: "What is ASP thinking?!" :o. I don't get it. ??? She's the one who turned her back on GG. We're in this mess in the first place because she wouldn't stick with it and now she wants to swoop in and become a hero? Or is it she really hated seeing everyone so upset about the series finale lacking closure? Still two hours is not going to be enough either. I seriously doubt she can pull of things we really need to see in just two hours. If she is willing to do a two-hour episode then why not make it 11 and then add a two-hour series finale? I'm confused  :-[ How does she expect this to air? On tv, in the theaters? If on TV then she needs to deal with either the CW network or find someother network that can work with the WB studios.

I don´t want a Gilmore Girls movie and I wouldn´t watch it either, even if Amy produced it!!!!!!!!
I just want more seasons and Amy as the producent!!!
Lauren, Scott and Alexis want the movie???
Than they can shoot season 8, too!!!!!!! :(

I wrote this in reply to the same post on the spoiler board but I'll add it here too:

Once again Alexis doesn't seem too keen and Lauren won't do it without her.

I don't understand Alexis problem with this- unless she really wants to get away from the role of rory, but serious, with such a not great series finale, you would think that they would all be keen to do; especially with a A S-P script

O.M.G. DEFINATELY not expecting that.

I am just sitting in my computer chair waiting for it to sink in... God, what a shocker.

If we don't get an 8th season, I would settle for this.  Especially if AS-P wrote and directed it.

^ I agree...i would DEFINATELY settle for this if there was no 8th season. I think that's great, and they all sound like they want to do it. Although I would like to see how AS-P is going to pull this off (I'm sure she can) because I think that there's more than 2 hours needed to "tie up the loose threads". well i guess we just have to wait now!

Don't like the idea one bit.  Things are done, two years from now we'll look back and see that the show has run its course and there won't be a need for a 2 hour movie so far after the fact.  AS-P said she didn't watch this entire season but now she wants to correct it?  Seems a little too late with too much time gone by.

It would be great to have a GG movie!! I'm up for it just to see how Amy would have played out the show. I'm hoping that we will see L/L married, if not, getting married in this movie. That's all I really wanted at the end of the show. I really didn't like how they ended Season 7. There were alot of storylines left unfinished and I think that the movie would finally give us a close to the show. At least, if this movie does end up being made, the cast/crew would get a chance to say "Goodbye" to one another since they didn't know when Bon Voyage was made it was going to the end of the show.

if we aren't getting our season 8 i'm soooooo freaking happy about this!!!
especially since season 7 kinda sucked in terms of gilmore girls writing... i'm so shocked though... that doesn't seem like an ASP kinda thing... but hell if she wants to than more freaking power to her....!!!!

I'm sure she has so much planned because as you remember she went to the execs at the end of season 6 and wanted a contract for another 2 season and they didn't give it to her, so that means she had it all already planned out...oh i'm so excited to see what she's going to come up with... maybe she'll write a few more books to go along with it too!!!

I think two hours would be enough to tie things up.  Most likely the movie would not pick things up exactly where the series ended--some time will have passed, so an assumption could be made of progress in the lives of the characters.  Maybe it would pick up at the point of the presidential election completed and Rory completing her stint on the campaign trail with O'Bama--she would then be more mature and ready to start a new phase of her life (renewed relationship time with Logan maybe??).  This would also have allowed enough time to go by for Luke and Lorelai to get their relationship on solid ground again -- and get them to the point where they could get married and start a family.

it is great news! i'm really curious about knowing what Amy originally had in mind and I think we're gonna have a lot of questions answered in this one. I'm probably biased too cuz anything that involves more of GG would be good news for me!  :D

This is all I ask for. I would love more Episode for sure but a 2 hour movie is just fine with me. But I think without a doubt Alexis will be holding out. I think she was the main problem with an 8th season. I dont really see her having a great career in movies. Just my opinion.

I think that they should have had a two hour season finale, i thought that they rushed through that to much, so the idea of a 2 hour tv movie sits all right with me now, after thinking about it from 6:45 to now (3:55)

It would be nice if they could do that.  The last episode did not close up all of the plot lines.  It would be interesting to see what she had in mind.  I would guess she probably has a whole movie in her head.

Now is where I start wondering.  Does she imagine picking it up at the end of S7 or will she ignore S7 all together and start at the end of S6?  Hmmm.  I suppose the end of S7 since she said tie up all loose threads…

I’d watch it, no doubt about it, it was a great thing to wake up to this morning.

I think if they did do it it would be nice not only for us but also for the story. I mean in someway I think we deserve it since many of us were disappointed with the finale. I think the girls story isn't over quite yet. I mean I wanna know about whats gunna happen with Rory and I wanna see the Luke and Lorelai wedding!! Though we may not see it ever I just want to see more. I think we all deserve it.

Heres hoping..

I really don't see anything wrong with this idea! It's just like 2 gilmore episodes put into one big show! I am so surprised that they are considering this! Surprised...and freaking EXCITED! This sounds perfect to me. The show needed it.

If there is ANY WAY to get this to Amy Sherman-Palladino I would really Appreciate it!!!

Good evening Amy,

Thank you so much for giving us 6 wonderful years of the best TV I have ever watched. The Gilmore Girls was my Tuesday nights for the past 7 years. It was such a well made show that I felt like I lived with them for one hour a week. I felt the tension of Luke and Lorelai. I felt the connection of a Mother and Daughter. I felt the hominess of small town life. I loved it all and looked forward to a new show every week. I even loved the re-runs... there was always something new to pick out.
Now that they have officially canceled the show, I know many people, including myself are rallying for the CW to bring it back, if only for a few episodes to conclude the story the way you saw it end. I want the show to have a REAL ending... your ending.. your last words... I want to see you put your baby to rest the only way it should.
I am very mad at the CW network, as I am sure you are as well. They have cheated the young women of America the positive influences you as well as the writers of Everwood and 7th Heaven gave them. I felt that you gave them a sense of independence, a sense of strength and a sense of peace. You taught them it was okay to be shy, it was okay to be smart and it was okay to love your Mother. I will miss that every week. I will miss showing this kind of positive TV to my daughter one day.
If there is anything that we can do to convince you to bring the Girls back we will do it. I would love to see the girls come back in a final chapter. Of course it would be wonderful to see them back on TV, however I know that there is now bad blood between CW and the show. You could try to negotiate with ABC Family. However, bringing the Girls back does not have to be on TV. I would love to see a book written or maybe a Movie? However you bring them back, it would not matter, as long as they get the wonderful infamous finale that they deserve.. that you gave them and that we would love to see.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to one of your favorite fans... I look forward to your new Show on Fox this fall.

Sincerely,

Janel A Plouffe

I don't know how to get that to any one but I think if you go to the gg.org homepage there is a list of contacts a litlle further down. Good letter BTW.

I was a movie although I think they should go maybe 3 years later and have everyone start to get serious and stuff. I don't think two hours would be enough and I wish they would try to make a season 8 but what are you going to do. Any way thats my two cents, bye

I'm soooo all up for this!!!! I really feel like they could really show what happens with L/L and then Rory. They need to give us a good solid ending. Not a "you can decide for yourself what happens" ending. I mean we all know how crappy the last episode was. It just wasn't fitting of the show we all know and love. AS-P would write the film and it would be awesome because we all love her writing. It would be perfect to end the whole she-bang.

Now I guess they'd have to persuade Alexis because it doesn't sound like she wants to do it at all. And I especially would hate for there to not be the original Rory. I don't think Lauren would do it without her either. So she hopefully will want to do the show by the time they decide whether or not they're going to do it!!!

Other than that! YAY!! Hope it happens!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll probably get flamed for this but why is Alexis being such a pain and dragging the show down? She could suck it up and do a movie and make the fans and AS-P happy. I don't know about Lauren's blind loyalty to someone who seems so overly selfish. The Gilmore Girls MADE Alexis and now she just can't wait to fly so far from where she started. It really just ticks me off that all of it seems to be over because of her.
I loved her character. I loved all the characters. These "people" were my reason for living for the last few years on Tuesdays. I sadly didn't get in on it until halfway through season four but then I had a voracious appetite for it, watched all the reruns on ABC Family and got caught up. I'm still watching the reruns every day.
I know it's just a show but look how important these characters are to everyone. They are like family to us all. My daughter even named her baby Lorelai. Sorry I got off topic. I just am so aggravated that Alexis seemed to be the one to rip a season 8 out of our hands.

Okay, I'm done. I hope they do the movie. Even if they have to hogtie her and only let her loose to do her part. It would be awesome to see how Amy wanted it done.

Now I guess I'll wait for Amy's new show to come out on Fox and I'll give it a whirl and see if I can find something else to love.

i'm going to agree with rob on this one... with alexis, it's very hard to know exactly how she feels about something because she is a very private person... i don't think she's taking us the fans or the show for granted i think she's just tired.. their schedule was exhausting and after long negotiations nothing came out of it, that in itself can be frustrating... i just dont feel its right to place so much blame on alexis... hopefully tonight on letterman she'll clear things up...

I have mixed feelings about a movie. I would definitely watch it, but what is really the point? How many loose threads are there? The series finale was beautifully done i thought and left our Girls in a good place. What would be the big whoop about seeing Rory go off on a campaign trail or seeing Luke & Lorelai pursuing their latest fling? And wasn't Amy the one who ditched the show after her dismal season 6? I can understand if Alexis is not totally enthused.

But of course for all my doubts i would be glued to the television if it ever really happened.

I was slowly accepting the Gilmore Girls ending, but then I started watching Season 1/2 again, and I saw the episode where Luke made Lorelai that wedding thing - forgot the name of it - and they stood under it together...they possibly should have had a wedding and it would be there.  I kind of like that Rory isn't with any guy...Jess was my favorite, but all in all, I couldn't see her with any of them...but going back and watching the DVDs of early seasons convinces me that Lorelai belongs with Luke...and I'd love to see them married in a 2-hour episode...so if this tv/movie actually happens, I will be quite happy.

Amanda Elise, I love your sig! It's so beautiful and encompasses what a lot of us fans hope for and dream of for Luke and Lorelai, they belong together. I'm not overthinking the "will the 2 hour movie be enough" or "A S-P wrecked the last season by leaving at the end of season 6". I'm just so glad that the wheels are in motion for something more. Whatever happens I will be happy.

At this point, Alexis hasn't said she wouldn't do a movie.  All she said, at least in the article I read in this discussion, is that she hadn't considered it before.  I doubt anyone besides ASP had considered it.  It seemed like everyone was surprised that ASP was even thinking of a movie.  All she said was she'd have to see how she felt.  Who can know exactly how they'll feel about something that's two years (and most likely more) away?  If it happens at all. Maybe in two years time, she'll be all for it.  Maybe the script will be a dream script.  Maybe it will be a dud.  (NO writer is immune to bad writing.)  Maybe circumstances will happen that prevent her from doing a movie at that time.  But one thing I didn't read her saying is that she won't do it.  Just that, it's a wait and see thing.

I have been watching season 1 again on ABC Family and I had forgotten how early in the show the Luke and Lorelai courtship started.  I agree with an earlier poster that Luke belonged to Lorelai and it still disappoints me that they weren't married in the final episode.  I think that is the only loose end that needs to be tied.  Who knows what Amy Sherman- Paladino has in mind.  Hopefully, it will be a wedding or a wedding has already occurred.

I'm such a happy ending kinda person that i would love to see it end with a wedding but lauren herself already said she'd hate to see it end with a wedding... which makes me wonder where ASP would go with it, cuz i know she'd want that void filled for us but at the same time, it was a show that was started on mother-daughter relationships.

I have read the Lauren Graham quote ,as welll, about not having the show end in marriage for her.  However, the naturall evolution of the Luke/Lorelai relationship would seem to be marriage.  Lorelai pined for Luke for seven seasons.  ASP teased the viewers with some interesting and sometimes ridiculous plots twists with their relationship.  Marriage is what was hinted at through the years.  I understand that the show is about the Mother/Daughter relationship.  But most mothers and daughters get married at some point in their lives.  Lauren Graham played the role but ASP created the character.  Who has more ownership in the role.  Ther person who created the character or the actior who performed the role. I wonder if Lauren Graham would even agree to do a movie if a marriage to Luke is involved.  I was ok with the implied actions at the end of the last episode.  Each person can come to their own conclusion on how the relationship played out.  I think most viewers wanted to see a wedding, or at a minimum, a proposal

I really hope they have a movie! I mean I do want another season but I will take anything Gilmore at this point! If they have a movie of course they do need a Luke and Lorelai wedding and we need to see who Rory ends up with and what happens with her new job. Ok I have convinced myself I do want a movie!

:D This a fantastic idea!!  I'm thrilled to death!
I think we should all face facts and realize that we are never going to get the 8th season.  Not gonna happen. The series is gone.  (I know this is hard to accept!)  So a two hour movie written by ASP is the only way we're going to get the closure we all need so much!!  I believe two hours would be enough time to tie the loose ends together, especially because that final scene between Lorelei and Luke provides a foundation to build on.  If we pick up on them a year or so later and they're preparing for their wedding, it wouldn't be a wild, unacceptable leap!  Also, (my own personal hearts desire, because I'm a die-hard "Rory-Jess" fan...), it would be possible that Rory, in her travels, had re-connected with Jess, who loves her and is perfect for her : a fellow intellectual and bibliophile with ambition and drive, but he's also hip and off-center, just like the GG.  Rory connected with him in a way she never did with either Dean or Logan.  Well, that's my take on it, anyway.  (Remember why she left the pool house and went back to Yale?  It was Jess!  He said, "What are you doing? This isn't you." He understood her.)
 :o)
Maybe by that time Milo would have softened enough to be willing to make an appearance.  But if not, Rory could come home and just talk about her renewed relationship with Jess - who couldn't leave his bookstore in Philly. Uhm...a big book-signing event.
Aaaanyway, the point is:  Yes!  Please, please, please give us a two hour movie, lest we perish.

Yeah, I've read that Lauren Graham quote about not wanting to end the show with a wedding.  I think I can see where she's coming from.  (And I actually don't need a big wedding for closure. )   But her character DID want to be married and talked about it all the time.   She told Luke she wanted to be married before those two even got together and he told her "you'll get it".  Then she got all drunk and sad over not being married at Lane's wedding reception.  Those are just two examples, but there were many more over the last seven seasons.

So I guess I can see both sides.    BUT-- if there was a season 8  ;)   the show wouldn't have to end with a wedding.  The wedding could be somewhere near the middle of the season.   lol... just my little attempt to make everyone happy.

yeah yeah yeah i totally agree... thats why i'm really hoping that even though lauren graham didn't want a wedding to end it, that ASP still includes it in her 2 hour movie or whatever she does... i mean maybe it shouldn't end in movie but for Lorelai's sake she deserves a wedding... and us as fans i think would love to see one...

I am also a lover of happy endings but i don't think that a wedding is necessarily the way to achieve it for Luke & Lorelai. If anything, L&L's disastrous engagement in season 6 seemed to suggest that they should not get married (which, i will add, seemed to be a betrayal of everything that came prior). I personally know couples in long-time relationships who are perfectly happy but never bothered getting hitched. I am by no means anti-marriage, but L&L in the finale seemed to reunite in a way that said "i'll be there for you" more than "you're my soul mate".

Also, there have been plenty of big-hype weddings in television history and i think Lauren Graham was suggesting we don't need another.

I would love a movie in theory, but in reality i think it would be a disappointment. And, having said that, i would love to watch it anyway because there is no such thing as too much Gilmore Girls!

i want a gilmore girls movie.
but it would be better to have at least one more season.
at least we'll get to see how it ends afterall :)
that's the main reason why i was mad because of everything they just left hanging and unclosed.
it'll make me happy just to get to see how it ends.

I can't wait for this. They better not be getting our hopes up for another rejection. But if Amy wants to add an ending and give us her final four words, it's obvious she wasn't satisfied with the finale. I hope the movie is like the first six season directed by her. She better not have lost her touch. What I hope to see in the movie is some Luke and Lorelai fluff moments and something that brings the Rory storyline to a full circle. I don't care if there isn't a wedding but what there has to be is something to help us know that no matter what Luke and Lorelai will stay together. I hope April isn't in it, though.

I am Surprised that ASP would want to do a GG movie although in a way it would fit in with the theme of GG because they are always watching movies on the show
i would perfer an 8th season but if that wont happen then this would be way better then nothing
it wold be great to tie up the lose ends that were left with everything at the end of season 7 (ie luke and lorelai, Rory, April and Luke, Emily Richard and Lorelai, Sookie and her new baby)
and if ASP writes it it will have the fast pace witty pop culture that was sort of missing in season 7
it would be amazing if it was in theatres instead of tv because then GG would really get the sendoff it deserves

Weeeee That's a great ideaaaa!! I can't wait a year...hehe I want the movie now!! I'd prefer a new season, but... better a movie than nothing... I think Alexis is jealous because the role of Lorelai is much better than the role of Rory, in the last season she was so...I don't know how to say "sosa" in English... :S and Lorelai is soooo funny!! That's my opinion...
I really hope they do the movie...and we'll get ASP back!!

Again, Alexis hasn't said she wouldn't do the movie.  People are reacting like Ausiello (or whoever got the reactions from the cast) asked her and she gave them the finger and spewed out expletives and a desire for the show to burn in hell.  All she's said is, I have to see.  At this point there's nothing for Alexis to agree to.

But, if Alexis doesn't want to play Rory for a movie, couldn't it be likened more to someone eating pizza almost constantly for 7 years?  You might love pizza, you might have nothing against pizza.  But, when you finally stop eating pizza, you might not be so inclined to go back and eat pizza again.  That's just a slightly (although who knows if anyone else will feel that way) more sympathetic interpretation.  And, I'm fully aware that I have no idea why Alexis might not want to do a movie (which she has not said in any capacity).

And, I wonder how many people are really upset about the possibility of not seeing Rory and how many just want the movie itself and wouldn't be at all upset with Alexis if they found out that the movie could go ahead without her.  If it was ASP saying she didn't really need Rory, would people be upset that they weren't including Rory, or would they just be happy to have the movie with whomever?  Provided of course that whomever included Lorelai and Luke.

I'm sooooo excited!

I've been trying to come to grips that something that has been a large part of my life for seven years (yes, I watched it from day one seven years ago) will no longer be so . . . even if it is just a tv show . . .

And it's been especially difficult to come to grips with the notion that for all intents and purposes last season wasn't official. There was a completely different plan in mind of the original creator who had envisioned a specific ending . . . and now I would never know how it played out! It was maddening!

Yet now . . . this possible tv-movie on the horizon has aliviated that "blueness" . . . Even if it doesn't pan out, at least the POSSIBILITY of it will help me deal with these next couple years. :)

As for Alexis, everyone is being too hard on her. First of all, all she said was that she'd not concidered it and was shocked ASP was, and that she'd have to read the script. That's exactly what is to be expected of her. Actors can't say "YES! I'LL DO THE PROJECT!" . . . Hollywood is a strategic game. When pre-production is underway, we can expect a "yes" from her. She's not going to pass this one up.

If this movie really does happen in two-three years, i assume they will not pick up exactly where the "Bon Voyage" finale ended. (For one thing, we will have a new President by then and it would be silly to have Rory on the Obama campaign bus.) That means ASP will have to fill in a lot of gaps, trying to explain what happened to our Girls in the interim.

I hope Rory will have moved on and found a new boyfriend, maybe on the campaign trail or afterwards. Or, just imagine, perhaps she can be happy without a boyfriend! As for Luke & Lorelai, i have to imagine that even in the fantasy of tv-land, something of note would happen during that time-span. Maybe marriage, maybe a child (Lorelai's pushing 40 and better get moving if she decides she wants another kid), or maybe they will simply be happy together without any long-term commitment. All i know is they better be together in some capacity!!!

I think it will be difficult to make the thing plausible, but then again some of the plot twists of the last few seasons have been crazy anyway. Bring it on!

I wont get to worked up over the movie. It appears none of the actors knew about it. It also sounds if Alexis was the big reason why there is no season 8 and/or movie. There is a lot of actors that need to be assembled for this movie. Both season six and season seven finales were disappointing. ASP and DR are at fault. The Luke and Lor relationship was never built up and made up on the last 5 minutes of the series. I'm not sure it could be fixed in a two hour TV movie. According to Scott in his interview it appears the actors have no passion for the show. So what would be the point.

Thankfully you are another member here who doesn't see the need for the movie.  Having a movie so far into the future about events that happened two years prior just don't make sense to me.  And a wedding in my opinion, with the planning and showing Lorelai and Luke walking down the aisle is so not 'Gilmore Girls.'  A soap opera maybe, but certainly not the show.

I wouldn't care if there was a movie if David would have ended the storylines properly. The finale felt to me like a season finale not a series finale. Amy should make up for leaving and not sticking with the show and finishing it the way she wanted to all along. I hope there is a movie so we can all have a proper goodbye.

Actually I'm kind of pro-movie now. Another week without a new episode has me experiencing withdrawl pains and I'm dying to get any Gilmore fix I can. If the flash forward two years and we don't see Rory on the campaign trail, just back at Stars Hollow, I'll be happier. Otherwise IMO it's too many new characters and relationships to build which in the two hours with so many concurrent storylines will leave it feeling hollow and incomplete.

Although I'll wait to be worried once I know that everyone's signed onto the screenplay. I'm not going to get sucker punched again like I did last time when I was certain we'd get a shortened season 8. I'd absolutely love either a movie or an 8th season, but I'm guarding my hope in case of rejection again.

I have to admit i'm starting to feel the same way!   :o  Well, i guess i'm going back & forth. I was satisfied with the finale and fear a movie in a couple of years would just open cans of worms. But part of me would luv to see the Girls back in action. There are so many great characters on the show, even after 7 seasons it seems a shame that they will never "live" again!

Sort of OT but I’ve heard rumors that Sex and the City may finally be making their reunion movie.  I think they went off the air in 2004?  Maybe late 2003.  So 3-4 years later and sure enough.  Just a feather in the cap for AS-P might be onto something here.  I assume we have a long wait either way.

To those not interested or anti-movie, would you watch it if it did become a reality?  I’m just curious :)  Because I do think the storylines were wrapped up nicely but I sure as heck would watch it and love every minute.

I also read an article not long ago about a Sex & The City movie possibly becoming a reality down the road.

I am on the fence about the need for a GG movie, but i would without question watch it. I've seen every other episode, so why not? I agree with you that the story lines in the finale were wrapped up nicely, in fact i thought the finale was the best episode out of the entire 6th and 7th seasons. But the thought of new GG is too tempting to possibly resist.   :)

This would also have allowed enough time to go by for Luke and Lorelai to get their relationship on solid ground again -- and get them to the point where they could get married and start a family.
exaclty what i was thinking. ASP could not just pick it up at the end of the season (note:Roty would not be there) It would be nice to see this i need the closer...mostly with Luke and Lorelai

I hope that this really happens. It would be a little weird to have a Gilmore Girls movie, but I guess it would be just like one long episode. It would be so great to be able to tie up all loose ends and maybe show them in the future a few years from now, I hate when you get left hanging. So even if we cant have another season, or even a shorter season, please let us have two more hours!

I would love a 2 hour movie.  That is what Dawson's creek did for the finale with the original writer.  So, I would rather have that then nothing.  At least, we could see what we want, or at least I hope so.  Some closure would be great!

ohh i would be so happy! maybe ASP could put her infamous last words @ the end of the movie instead...unless those last words in "bon voyage" were her infamous final words...in which case...the ending words would still be cool!

this would give gg a chance to say a proper sayonara  :D just a little more insight would have been helpful...and they could plan it instead of it being all rush-rush last minute series/season finale throw together!

i agree with ErinG. "gilmore girls" and "movie" don't sound like they belong together. but hey! veronica mars got a 2-hr series finale (even though it was 2 seperate eps) so gg should too!

Yes, i think ASP would have a lot of gaps to fill. I feel like the series finale closed things fairly well, but i would only want to see more of L&L if their relationship is better than it was when they were engaged in season 6. In other words, they should communicate and have plenty of wacky banter and be a fun couple. I hope that would be the focus of a movie and i hope a movie would not create more problems than it solves.

I'd watch.  But, I'd have to see it before I could say whether I'd like it or not.

I'd still watch it but I don't see the need for it.  I think we can infer all we need from the final episode.  We're not going to get the wedding or Rory's first interview with Obama.  Will I watch it?  Sure.  It's 'Gilmore Girls' and I'd still see it even if I don't think it's necessary.

I love that ASP is doing it.  I think that if it was the writer for season seven, I wouldn't like it as much.  ASP was the creator, and she knows her characters inside out.  I'd love to hear the last words out of Amy.  I've missed her, and I want to hear her goodbye.  Lorelai sleeping with Chris was not a good farewell for me.  I'd like a movie where Amy can truly cast away our favorite girls.

I don't necessarily see the need for it, but if Amy were to do it, I would definately back it and tell every quasi-Gilmore fan I knew to watch it. I didn't like how the series ended, I will say (it didn't seem to have enough closure for a series finale, no), but it was still Gilmore, through and through.

If it were to happen, though I might not see the need for it, yes, I would in fact jump up from wherever I may have been sitting when reading about it, and do an arms-waving dance in the middle of the room, whether anyone was watching me or not, simply because the idea of continuation of the lives of Gilmore-ian Stars Hollow etc. thrills me beyond belief. I cannot count how many times I've glanced up at my dvds and exuded a long, sorrowful sigh, because that's all there is.

Anyhow. My view.

There is the unfortunate reality that Lauren & others might have other commitments and, even if they are interested in the movie, will not be able to work it into their schedule. It's not as though these actors will be sitting around waiting for a movie; they are looking to keep working. And it may be difficult getting so many of them to be available; a movie would have to include the many supporting players, such as the Star's Hollow folks, to be an authentic GG experience.

A movie is a god thing if we can't get new seasons, and Amy is producing it so is coool...! And come on a 2 hours movie is perfect and We can always remember our girls with DVD's from all seasons. Of course more season written by Amy are more perfect that a 2 hours movie, but if we can't get that really what is the point to say that we won't see the moviee and fight about it.
Stay together and see the movie so that we can be a box office..a movie that can beat Shrek or Pirates of Carribean!! ;D( a little dream, so they can understand that Gilmore Girls can't really end)
Maybe together we will get more Gilmore Girls :D ::)

If there is a movie....more of Gilmore Girls would be great but it has  to have the original
cast members. They are the the ones which have made the characters which they portrayed
so memorable. Stars Hollow became a very special place to visit every Tuesday nite because of them.
So we can all wait and hope with baited breath and see what happens !

Hope Alexis decides to do it... we need closure!! plus... im DYING to get those four words.

I agree with most of the reasons everyone gave in response to my somewhat annoying question.  Sorry, I really wanted to know.

Heh, I’d love it because it was GG, not necessarily the story-lines that go with it, if that makes any sense whatsoever.  I loved Seasons 6 and 7 even if once in a while I was scratching my head or disagreeing with a storyline.  Because it still make me think.

Devillna07, you’re right, it would be years down the line – unless they did some sort of flashback sequence to catch us up (I would assume there would maybe be one here and there but they couldn’t possibly capture everything this way or it would be a whole movie of flashbacks).  I personally prefer not to see a L/L wedding, but I wonder if that (no wedding or wedding flashback on screen) would change the opinions of many that are pro-movie.

Experience with some truly rotten tv, even with my favorite shows, has taught me that I can't love something just because of the association.  Homicide was one of, if not the best shows on tv, and its tv movie was a load of tripe, and it wasn't any less tripe because it was associated with Homicide.  Made it worse actually.

So, for me, the answer is still the same.  I'll have to see it before I can say how I'd feel.

I guess I’m lucky in that regard so far, I haven’t gotten into any shows that ended and a movie came out later.  Not that I can remember anyway (but now I want to watch Homicide so I can relate!).  Sex and the City will be the first one (if it does see the light of day), that may change things.

Well, if you can tell from the name, Homicide is pretty much the opposite of Gilmore Girls.  Well, until they do the murder of the Troubadour.  Hey, if the plot of the movie is a who dunnit of who killed the Troubadour, and then they find out everyone in town had a part in it, I will love the movie.  Heck, if that's the summary of the movie, I will love it sight unseen.

I’m definitely on board for a troubadour mystery.  It’s been a long time coming for that troubadour.  The real question will be, was Kirk in or out of the box at the time of the murder?

I would like to know where Taylor was at the time of the murder. He always had issues with the troubadour.
Come to think of it, the actor who plays Taylor once appeared on NYPD Blue, and he played a creepy bad guy.

And since an 8th season is highly unlikely...whatever...I don't care who writes it, I don't care who directs it...I just wanna watch GG together again!!!

It was not a qualified ending because the cast was still in negotations for an 8th season remember? and that fell through so that is why it ended like it did. We all it expected it to be back for an 8th season. I really think they should have done an 8th season and that may hurt the actors in the future- fans are fickle! I will watch the actors where ever they may go.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alexis decides against it, which in turn will hack Lauren, resulting in a no-go for this movie.  I wouldn't mind seeing a two hour "movie-esque" wrap up, but to wait two years is a little ridiculous to me.  The cast is going to have moved on and the storyline is going to be dead.  You can't go from the longest wait being 4 months to now 2 years (at least) and expect to get the same reaction.  Amy should have thought of this before leaving the show.

I still have hope for a GG TV movie or two.

I just think the fans need to keep the subject hot, campaign for it, otherwise it'll soon be forgotten even by those most willing, like Kelly Bishop (who has influence on Lauren, I believe).

Does anyone know of any such campaign going on or planned?

Title: Re: Ask Ausiello: Gilmore Girls Reunion Movie - 05.23.07
Post by: Dani257 on July 14, 2007, 07:54:17 am
I don't think any news should be expected now.  And, I'm not really sure that any campaigns are needed.  Movies get made from shows without campaigns, and I don't think they poll audiencs to see if people are still interested in the show -so I don't think there needs to be worry that they won't go through with it if there aren't enough people sending in letters or props.  I kind of doubt there was any campaign for a Growing Pains movie and it managed to happen.

Ausiello was wrong to present the news like he did.  All that fanfare and excitement.  He wrote it like something was happening, that it was a sure thing and in process.  But, it's not.  Things haven't stalled.  They haven't even begun yet.  Unless Ausiello sends up fireworks when ASP writes page 5 of the first draft, I don't think there will be any news until there's an actual completed script, and probably not until there's actual production of the script happening.

My only concern is, will they be able to re-create the town of Stars Hollow?
I assume some time will have passed, but it will really be wonky if the town looks too different.

It's Hollywood... there are sooo many documentations of the sets that any reasonably competent continuity staff would have no problem.

Agreed. And let's be real, if Aliens in America takes off, Scott Patterson will be very busy and Lauren's working her "Juicy" off (she's deservedly getting a lot of jobs). Hey, they're human. They gotta rest some time. It's likely to be a year or two at best - I'm betting it will happen, but more like 3-4 yrs.

i agree that if this was to happen it wouldnt happen for a long time. as for being worried about alexis i think she would do a movie because its not the crazy hours the actors had before for as long. a movie takes only a couple of months not seven years like the series did so i would hope the whole cast would be involved. i really hope this happens a gg movie would be so awesome and i think that they definately need a new way to end the show so a movie would be prefect!

Please forgive me but this sounds like a terrible thing to do.  i am unsure of how many of you might have watch the tv series Dr. Quinn.  well, great show, then they left it hang for a year and the 2 hour show that they brought back was really dumb.  they didn't start off where they had ended.  they started off like we had been watching it for years and thier child was older, and the three children that she raised were older and on thier own as well.  so you missed out on a lot of things.  so i really think that this will be interesting to say the least.  I really think that they need to bring it back for one more season and then if Alexis doesn't want to come back right away consentrate on the other people of the town for the time being, but then if needed write in a two hours season finially.  but as it stands CW won't be getting my tv watching until they bring back something that is fit to watch.

I understand your point, but since the most important characters and the important minor characters are all adults, I don't think it will make a difference at all. We don't need to see Davey and Martha, and the new Belleville baby hasn't been cast yet. If Davey and Martha ARE needed, well, they can be recast with kids that look fairly similiar (if they can do it to Mia {I still hate them for that} then they can do it to them). And that's all. Barring any cast deaths or car accidents that alter a cast member's face to drastically that ASP will have to write a random scene involving a Wampa attack on an ice-covered planet, I think we'll be alright.

Just a reminder:We are still fighting for a real closure of Gilmore Girls, whether it be a shortened Season 8, mini-series, or a movie....

There are still people signing the petition but there are still fans out there that don't realize there will not be a Season 8 of Gilmore Girls...

For those fans who have signed the Petition,  A BIG THANK YOU!  If you haven't signed the petition, please go to:

http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/great8mandate/

The petition reads for A Season 8, because it can't be edited.

Also for the lastest Gilmore Girls related Movie news, please visit:

There is a postcard blitz to Amy to show her how much we care about Gilmore Girls and that there is a lot of  interest in a GG Movie.

Please spread the word!   Thanks!

SOOKIE: The point is that even if it takes forty years to figure it out,
there's still a chance for a happy ending!

LORELAI: But that's all they had! An ending! I don't want to have just an
ending with Luke!

I think a GG movie would be cool, but after a while it get's a little over the top. I mean, I would totally see it, but if they're going to do a film, why not just do one more season? I think by making a movie, it's kind of like "oh look what we can do!" Like when JK Rowling said Dumbledore was gay. I dunno, I'm probably the only person that thinks this, but wouldn't it be alot less superficial to just do one more season????!!!?!?!?

I second that. ^^  I've just finished watching season 7 and I cried. And now I need to know whether I need to cry some more or if I should wait paitionately for a movie or season 8. Which I'm up for either, just as long as we get to see it in England aswell.

Ausiello just came out with some more info about a possible Gilmore movie last month when he interviewd Amy Sherman-Palladino: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/11/16/gilmore-boss-had-different-plan-rory/ (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/11/16/gilmore-boss-had-different-plan-rory/)

I really hope it happens! I want to see Amy's ideas on how GG should have ended.

The way the show ended didn't seem right.

I think it's time for a film.  Just one film and that is it.  Give the show the send off it deserves.

I don't think it should pick up where everything left off.  I think it should take place five years after the finale with some back story over what happened between those 5 years.

I think the best example of a movie that was faithful to its show but was something of its own was Serenity.  It didn't pick up where the show ended.  It was its own thing and I think the Gilmore Girls movie should be its own thing.

I agree that a film, or more likely a TV special, would be great but i doubt it will happen :(. A film is more likely as it would mean less of a commitment for all actors involved, 3 months and your done rather than a 9 month stint on a series.
I'm thinking something like what they did with the "Pretender" a few years ago.
While i'm on merry christmas to all GG fans and happy new year from this part of England.
